  • Patent number: 5680587
Abstract: An enhanced-performance floppy diskette subsystem, which operates many times faster than a conventional floppy diskette subsystem, includes both an enhanced-performance floppy diskette drive and floppy diskette drive controller. The diskette drive rotates a floppy diskette two or more times faster than that of a conventional floppy diskette drive, and includes two separate and independent read/write ("R/W") channels. To provide enhanced-performance, the floppy diskette drive controller includes a DRAM cache that maintains an image of the data recorded on a floppy diskette present in the floppy diskette drive. Two separate and independent floppy disk drive controller channels respectively interface between the cache memory and the R/W channels included in the enhanced-performance floppy diskette drive.

  • Patent number: 5680586
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for associating a file descriptor with a selected file within a data processing system that has multiple diverse operating systems, a number of diverse incompatible file systems, and a single file service which controls access by the operating systems to the file systems. When a request for file services, which specifies a file descriptor to be associated with a selected file, is received from a particular operating system in a format specific to that particular operating system, the file descriptor is converted into a nonspecific format utilized by the file service which includes an indication of the specific format utilized by the particular operating system. The file descriptor is examined to determine a destination file system and is then transmitted to that file system. If the destination file system supports the nonspecific format, the file descriptor is stored within the destination file system in association with the selected file.

  • Patent number: 5678030
Abstract: An emulator circuit and method of emulating operation of a computer system in which the emulator circuit may be selectively operated with memory devices that require coincident availability of data and address information during a clock cycle, and with systems that require data and address information at different times during the clock cycle. (Address information including address signals for selecting memory locations and memory control signals.

  • Patent number: 5671398
Abstract: The method of the present invention is useful in a computer system having a user interface, a memory, a database and a repository operative in the computer system for accessing the database. The method is implemented by the computer system for collapsing a version tree that depicts a history of objects stored in the database. The method, which is stored in the memory at run-time, comprises the steps of validating collapse request by insuring that the target object is not a ghost object, the end object is not a ghost, the end object is on the same version tree as the target object, and the end object is a later version than the target object. An empty array representing path objects is initialized from the target object to the end object; and if an end object is supplied, a function is called to build up an array of objects representing paths from the target object to the end object. The array of objects built up in the preceding steps is processed.
