  • Patent number: 5788101
Abstract: The invention relates to a container neck (10) and closure (12), particularly useful for foil-sealed containers. The neck (10) and closure (12) include complementary threads (14, 16) or projections and complementary tapered surfaces (18, 20) which are adapted to form an interference fit and seal the closure (12) to the neck (10) at a region clear from the lip (30) of the neck (10) and the crown (120) of the closure (12). Any foil seal (28) present on the container neck (10) remains free from contact with the closure (12) during application and tightening. Preferably the neck (10) includes a recessed lip (30, 32) further to protect the seal and to inhibit drop formation. An outer edge of the container lip may be chamfered to provide a pull tab on the foil seal. Additionally, the foil may be of a larger diameter than the lip of the container, so that it provides an overhanging edge of foil to facilitate the removal of the foil, but not of such a large diameter that it touches the inner surface of the closure.

  • Patent number: 5782374
Abstract: A liner for animal feeders designed to receive dry and moist food and liquid beverage to be consumed by the animal. Most animal feeders usually comprise a tray or dish in the nature of a bowl to receive the dry food or liquid. The liner is sized and shaped to fit over the bowl and has a base wall and an enclosing side wall with an open top. The side wall integrally merges into a rim and a downwardly struck peripheral flange with the latter to engage the exterior surface of the animal feeder sidewall. A plurality of liners are nestable in each other and are capable of being packaged in the nested condition. The liners are formed of a paper type material such as a wax-coated paper. By virtue of this construction, they are made waterproof and also capable of being effectively and easily conformed to the shape and size of the bowl with which they are used.

  • Patent number: 5779092
Abstract: The tank and baffle system comprises a tank for transporting liquids, having a plurality of baffles for controlling surges and excess liquid movement produced by movement of the tank. The present invention is particularly useful where there is a large ratio of tank width to tank support and lateral bending loads may be in excess of longitudinal bending. The baffles are rigidly secured to a tunnel structure that spans longitudinally from the front to the rear of the tank, and forms a continuous structure in both longitudinal and transverse directions. A further aspect of the invention is the use of chamfered corners on the baffle plates to provide fluid communication between chambers of the tank, as well as to reduce surging of the liquid contents and reduce or eliminate joint fatigue. Access ports in the baffles that are covered by access covers during use are another aspect of the invention.

  • Patent number: 5769257
Abstract: Method and apparatus for minimizing blast damage caused by an explosive device carried in luggage or other cargo loaded on an aircraft. A first cargo container is provided which includes a non-explosion-resistant panel. A second cargo container, also including a non-explosion-resistant panel is paired with the first container and both containers are loaded in the cargo bay such that the non-explosion-resistant panels face inboard, oppose and align with one another. The method provides a controlled venting feature whereby explosive products are vented into the adjacent container in the cargo bay of an aircraft through non-explosion-resistant panel on the inboard side of the container. The container is constructed of lightweight, high-strength materials and may be joined to a supporting structure with threaded fasteners, allowing for efficient replacement of damaged panels.

  • Patent number: 5762224
Abstract: A re-enterable environmentally sealed enclosure for housing circuitry and/or cable components of a communication network employs a removable cover attached to an enclosure base by a pivoting cam-tracking system. The tracking configuration positions the cover in a manner that, as it approaches the enclosure base when being closed, a seal located in the cover is evenly compressed along its entire perimeter against a corresponding mating surface on the base, thereby distributing the compressive force equally across the entire seal, with any shear forces substantially eliminated. A single tensioning system is provided adjacent the cam-tracking system, so that the tracking system does not operate as a counter-lever to the tensioning system, and visa versa, thereby improving the distribution of force across the seal.

Abstract: Molded plastic plates having a rolled edge rim and a method of rolling the edges of molded plastic plated. The plastic plates are pre-molded with lugs that project outwardly from the sides of the plates. The lugs of one plate contact the rim of the next successive plate in a stack of plates to create a gap between the plates stacked one on top of another. The gap allows each individual plate to be picked up by the threads on a plurality of threaded rollers which press on the rim of the plate to form the rolled edge.
