  • Patent number: 5406249
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for communicating data among transceivers in an electrical utility distribution system where a signal path between the transceivers includes multiple power distribution transformers is described. A first transceiver, common-mode coupled to a secondary of a first power distribution transformer transmits a carrier signal modulated by a data stream to the secondary. The modulated signal is transferred to the primary of the first power distribution transformer which is coupled to the primary of a second power distribution transformer. A second transceiver, common-mode coupled to a secondary of the second power distribution transformer, receives the modulated signal from the secondary. Both transceivers are protected from the high power delivered at the line frequency by filtering capacitors which attenuate signals at the line frequency and pass signals at the carrier signal frequency.

  • Patent number: 5347259
Abstract: A strobe warning light comprises an elongated strobe lamp having a longitudinal axis, a lamp support supporting the lamp in a predetermined position, and a reflector on the support that includes a first surface positioned on one side of a first reference plane that includes the lamp axis and a second surface spaced apart axially of the lamp from the first surface and positioned on the other side of the first reference plane. The first and second surfaces face generally toward each other and are configured and oriented to receive light from the lamp and reflect it in opposite directions along paths generally parallel to the lamp axis and on opposite sides of the first reference plane so that each one of the first and second surfaces directs reflected light predominantly past the other of the first and second surfaces. The reflector also has a third surface that is configured and oriented to reflect light from the lamp in divergent directions generally radially with respect to the lamp axis.

  • Patent number: 5345217
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting a partially deflated tire on a vehicle having four tires each mounted on a wheel. Each wheel being provided with a signal generator for producing a series of digital signals or pulses spaced apart by equal increments by angular rotation of the respective tire and wheel assembly characterized by calculating from one of the series of signals reflective of the vehicle speed. The method includes selecting an appropriate interval for deflation detection, measuring the speed of rotation for each of the four wheels, storing the speeds found, repeating the measuring step for at least three consecutive successive equal intervals, averaging the speeds to produce an average speed signal for each wheel, processing the four signals in a processing unit which subtracts the sum of the signals from one pair of diagonally opposite wheels from the sum of the signal from the other pair of diagonally opposite wheels, sensing when the magnitude of the result is between 0.05% and 0.

  • Patent number: 5309143
Abstract: A vehicle turn signal malfunction warning system that alerts the vehicle driver when a turn signal indication is not cancelled after a predetermined time period comprises a modular housing that is plug-compatible with all standardized flasher units in use, requires no wiring to be connected to the turn signal system or to the vehicle electrical system. The system includes a full-wave rectifier connected across the inputs of the standard turn signal flasher, and is powered solely by the voltage derived from the turn signal system. The warning system includes a first time base circuit, a second time base circuit, a gating means, and a tone generator means. The first time base circuit is arranged to be fully charged by the first turn signal pulse through the full-wave rectifier, and to discharge approximately 2.5 seconds after the turn signal pulse train ends. The second time base circuit begins charging when the first time base is fully charged, and accumulates a charge until the first time base circuit resets.
