    Abstract: Identifying pathways that are significantly impacted in a given condition is a crucial step in the understanding of the underlying biological phenomena. All approaches currently available for this purpose calculate a p-value that aims to quantify the significance of the involvement of each pathway in the given phenotype. These p-values were previously thought to be independent. Here, we show that this is not the case, and that pathways can affect each other's p-values through a “crosstalk” phenomenon that affects all major categories of existing methods. We describe a novel technique able to detect, quantify, and correct crosstalk effects, as well as identify novel independent functional modules. We assessed this technique on data from four real experiments coming from three phenotypes involving two species.

    Abstract: A contact problem for characterizing physical contact between two or more bodies is solved by receiving a level-set description of a geometry in a Cartesian grid comprising a plurality of cells. The geometry includes a boundary. Thereafter, the boundary is triangularized for each cell intersecting the boundary to result in a plurality of triangles. A surfacic Gauss integration rule is generated on each triangle using an interpolation of volumetric coordinates. Subsequently, a target point is computed for each Gauss point that corresponds to a projection of such Gauss point on a target surface. The computed target points are then used to integrate contact on the triangles. The problem can then be solved to compute a displacement field respecting contact conditions. The method further includes planning a fiber placement head path for forming the composite ply of the composite layup based on the second unit vector field.

Pre-forming fiber orientation is superimposed on the second FEA mesh model with the desired reference fiber direction being preserved.

The element repetition data may comprise linearly independent vectors and a number of repetitions according to each vector.
