  • Patent number: 11515000
Abstract: Identifying pathways that are significantly impacted in a given condition is a crucial step in the understanding of the underlying biological phenomena. All approaches currently available for this purpose calculate a p-value that aims to quantify the significance of the involvement of each pathway in the given phenotype. These p-values were previously thought to be independent. Here, we show that this is not the case, and that pathways can affect each other's p-values through a “crosstalk” phenomenon that affects all major categories of existing methods. We describe a novel technique able to detect, quantify, and correct crosstalk effects, as well as identify novel independent functional modules. We assessed this technique on data from four real experiments coming from three phenotypes involving two species.

  • Patent number: 11475184
Abstract: A contact problem for characterizing physical contact between two or more bodies is solved by receiving a level-set description of a geometry in a Cartesian grid comprising a plurality of cells. The geometry includes a boundary. Thereafter, the boundary is triangularized for each cell intersecting the boundary to result in a plurality of triangles. A surfacic Gauss integration rule is generated on each triangle using an interpolation of volumetric coordinates. Subsequently, a target point is computed for each Gauss point that corresponds to a projection of such Gauss point on a target surface. The computed target points are then used to integrate contact on the triangles. The problem can then be solved to compute a displacement field respecting contact conditions. Related apparatus, systems, techniques and articles are also described.

  • Patent number: 11436390
Abstract: A method of planning fiber paths for a composite ply of a composite layup includes determining a first unit vector field. The first unit vector field represents a first approximation of target directions to be followed by tow centerlines of the composite ply. The first unit vector field is determined based on a specified rosette direction, a surface approximation of a nonplanar contoured surface of an object to be formed, and a fiber angle distribution. The method also includes determining, based on specified angle deviation bounds and the first unit vector field, a second unit vector field. The second unit vector field represents a second approximation of the target directions. The second approximation has reduced in-plane curvature relative to the first approximation. The method further includes planning a fiber placement head path for forming the composite ply of the composite layup based on the second unit vector field.

  • Patent number: 11403445
Abstract: First FEA mesh model representing 3-D geometry of a carbon fiber reinforced composite (CFRC) product/part, pre-forming fiber orientation and desired reference fiber direction at a particular location on the product/part are received. First FEA mesh model contains finite elements associated with respective material properties for carbon fibers and binding matrix. Pre-forming fiber orientation includes number of fibers and relative angles amongst the fibers. Pre-forming 2-D shape of a workpiece used for manufacturing the product/part is obtained by conducting a one-step inverse numerical simulation that numerically expands the first to a second FEA mesh model based on numerically-calculated structural behaviors according to respective material properties. Pre-forming fiber orientation is superimposed on the second FEA mesh model with the desired reference fiber direction being preserved.

Abstract: A method of designing a cooling circuit inside a mold that includes therein the cooling circuit that passes through an inlet and an outlet includes a control plane setting step, a reference plane setting step, an intersection line extraction step, and a circuit setting step. The control plane setting step sets a control plane that is perpendicular to the mold surface on the side which comes in contact with a material and that passes through the inlet and the outlet. The reference plane setting step sets a reference plane that is offset by a fixed distance from the mold surface to the inside of the mold. In the intersection line extraction step, an intersection line at which the control plane and the reference plane intersect is extracted. In the circuit setting step, the cooling circuit is set inside the mold along the intersection line.
