Abstract: A biochemical reactor including a vessel, a support material matrix in the vessel and particles containing cells entrapped within the matrix is disclosed. In this manner, biological cells that are ordinarily too small to incorporate into a support material matrix can be retained in the matrix by virtue of being grouped into larger particles. Also disclosed is a method for preparing such a biochemical reactor and a process employing the biochemical reactor.
