  • Patent number: 3937187
Abstract: A toroidal cylinder is provided with a slot formed around the inner wall. A central shaft carries a sunwheel engaging a set of planet gears which in turn engage a fixed ring gear secured to the cylinder adjacent the slot. A pair of rings are provided carrying sets of pistons running within the cylinder, the edges of the rings sealably running within the slot. Pins on the planet gears engage slotted arms secured to the rings so that opposite pairs of pistons move toward and away from one another in sequence thus providing compression and expansion strokes in the cylinder together with intake and exhaust strokes. A fuel mixture ignited by spark plugs or the like may be used or, alternatively, fuel injection may be utilized and inlet and exhaust ports are formed within the walls of the toroidal cylinder.

  • Patent number: 3937186
Abstract: A trochoidal type rotary internal combustion engine wherein the intake port is controlled by the rotor, and variation in the fuel feed is provided by a slidable valve member in the intake pipe, which in closed position seats very close to the peripheral surface of the engine cavity to prevent entry of exhaust gas into the intake line at idling or low load conditions, the valve being controlled by a foot pedal or other conventional adjusting means.

  • Patent number: 3936245
Abstract: A diaphragm compressor includes a cylindrical piston and an annular diaphragm member with a central hub secured by a grommet within an annular recess in the piston face. The outer peripheral edge of the diaphragm is affixed between a clamp ring and a valve plate which has a central recess to form a compression chamber. The diaphragm has a convolution which opens toward the compression chamber. The valve plate has a projection complementing and mating with the convolution. A plurality of circumferentially spaced and radial intake ports lead to an annular piston intake opening inwardly of the diaphragm. A flexible, tee-shaped valve member includes a stem locked within the piston with a planar sealing disc having an outer bead abutting the inner piston face and overlying the intake opening. The stem may pass through a central opening with an outer stem enlargement creating a resilient clamping of the valve member to a holding portion of the piston.

  • Patent number: 3933131
Abstract: A rotary engine including a pair of concentric rotors one being rotatable within the other, one of said rotors being driven by the output shaft of the engine and the other rotor connected to drive said output shaft. The outer rotor having radially inwardly extending abutments and the inner rotor having radially outwardly extending abutments, the abutments of the two rotors defining therebetween a plurality of expansible gas chambers. The inner rotor having means to hold same stationary so as to provide a reaction member for said outer rotor and intermittent drive means driven by said output shaft and adapted to intermittently drive said inner rotor to create relative rotation between said rotors whereby expansion and contraction of said chambers will take place.

  • Patent number: 3932070
Abstract: In an electric motor fan unit, a motor section frame enclosing a motor ventilating fan moving air through an internal motor cooling air path includes an end bracket with an enlarged rim for mounting fan shell and interior partition structures defining a fan section housing with a chamber for a working air centrifugal impeller mounted on the motor shaft outboard of the end bracket and drawing a working air stream into a housing axial inlet for discharge at the housing circumference, and with an inner chamber for a slinger disk on the shaft to afford bearing protection from working air borne moisture, contaminants, and high temperature and humidity, by simple, low cost, durable structure.

  • Patent number: 3931807
Abstract: An improved rotary internal combustion engine utilizing a new and improved cycle of operation which includes six phases: intake, compression, combustion, after burn, adiabatic expansion, and exhaust. The purpose of both the after burn phase and the adiabatic expansion phase is to increase the thermodynamic efficiency of the engine and also to reduce the pollution products of the exhaust. The after burn phase achieves this purpose by injecting jets of hot compressed air into the hot combustion phase products at the end of the combustion phase and thus promotes more complete combustion. The adiabatic expansion phase serves to increase the engine efficiency by substantially allowing the combustion products to expand inside the engine thus converting the heat energy into useful mechanical energy.

  • Patent number: 3932075
Abstract: An inexpensive rotor and cooperating sealing grid for trochoidal rotary engines, in which the gas seals at each side of the rotor are simple circular elements interlocking and coacting with the sealing elements at the rotor apexes, whereby the chambers of variable volume formed between the rotor working faces and the housing are isolated from each other and from axial leakage of gas, the circular gas seals also serving as oil seals between the rotor and the housing side walls.

  • Patent number: 3931810
Abstract: A rotary-piston internal combustion engine having one or any number of rotary pistons, mounted in a cylindrical cylinder block, the cylinder block being mounted for rotation in an elliptical casing, on a central hub associated with said casing. A central drive shaft is connected to the cylinder block for rotation therewith, and each cylinder provides one power stroke per revolution of the cylinder block. Each cylinder is provided with a push rod, adapted to be restrained against the interior of the cylindrical wall of the engine casing. The engine is self-lubricating, and eliminates the need for a crankshaft, has a minimum of moving parts and thus friction points are minimal provides a hugh power-to-weight ratio and minimizes exhaust emissions. Ignition may be either by spark means, or by dieseling.
