  • Patent number: 9615228
Abstract: To enable multiple message originators to share an SMS shortcode, originator identifying codes can be added to outbound SMS messages that prompt recipients to respond with response messages that include the originator identifying codes. The originator identifying codes can be added by a service provider that administers the SMS shortcode. When a response message is received on the SMS shortcode number, the service provider processes the response message content to extract the originator identifying code. The code and, optionally, a recipient ID can be used as a lookup to determine the intended originator that the response message is for. The response message can then be associated by the service provider with the correct originator for subsequent processing.

  • Patent number: 8768393
Abstract: A method is disclosed to eliminate inter-cluster interference of user equipment located at the edge of a cluster of cells. The method operates by employing fractional frequency reuse (FFR) principles on clusters or combinations of cells in a wireless neighborhood, in which base stations in the cells coordinate their operations in a scheme known as coordinated multi-point transmission (CoMP). By using the FFR principles to single out edge users of the CoMP cluster, the method mitigates interference and increases throughput for the edge users.

  • Patent number: 8538407
Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling a building automation system with an FMC cellular device are provided. The FMC cellular device can locally interface with a building automation system via a femtocell base station or a wireless access point, remotely interface with a building automation system over a wide area network via a macrocell base station, or remotely interface with a building automation system via a GAN enabled wireless access point.

  • Patent number: 7881710
Abstract: A portable communication device detects a current speed of travel of the portable communication device independent of any vehicle temporarily transporting the portable communication device. A speed based setting controller of the portable communication device compares the current speed to at least one threshold value set at the portable communication device. Responsive to the current speed exceeding the threshold value, the speed based setting controller automatically assigns a separate speed based setting to a current setting for each feature assigned to the threshold value, wherein each current setting for each feature designates the operability of that feature within the portable communication device, such that the current setting for each feature adjusts with a speed of travel as detected by the portable communication device.
