  • Patent number: 9137675
Abstract: Methods and systems having improved capabilities are described for providing communications to a plurality of cellular mobile devices through generating m different sets of fixed position patterns of N RF beams across the ten contiguous one-millisecond LTE sub-frames of each LTE time-division duplexing (TDD) frame from an agile beam forming antenna system of a cellular LTE base transceiver station. The cellular LTE base transceiver station is in RF TDD communication with the plurality of cellular mobile devices within a cell coverage area of the cellular LTE base transceiver station. Each RF beam covers a sub-area of the cell coverage area where the m times N RF beam patterns cover the area of the cell coverage area. The value of m is 1?m?3 and each one of the m sets of N RF beam patterns is generated in one or more of the non-S one-millisecond sub-frames of an LTE frame. The m sets of N RF beams are generated across any ten contiguous one-millisecond sub-frames.

  • Patent number: 9135638
Abstract: The present invention includes a method and software application for providing a promotion to a user on a phone. The software application resides on a user's phone and “listens” for phone numbers dialed by a user. In response to the user dialing a phone number, the software determines whether a promotion or an offer for a promotion should be provided to the user. In response to determining to play or offer to play a promotion to the user, the software application on the phone effectively “intercepts” the call and plays to the user either a promotion or an offer to hear about a promotion prior to placing an outbound voice call. The software application may retrieve the promotion from local memory or may connect with a remote server to download an applicable promotion.

  • Patent number: 9088389
Abstract: Techniques to transmit pilot on a CDMA segment on the reverse link in a wireless communication system are described. A terminal generates a scrambling sequence based on its pilot information. The pilot information may be used for the entire duration of a call by the terminal and for all sectors with which the terminal communicates during the call. The terminal generates pilot symbols based on the scrambling sequence, maps the pilot symbols to the CDMA segment, generates OFDM symbols with the mapped pilot symbols, and sends the OFDM symbols to one or more sectors. A base station processes received OFDM symbols to obtain received symbols for the CDMA segment. The base station generates the scrambling sequence based on the pilot information for the terminal and processes the received symbols with the scrambling sequence to obtain at least one parameter (e.g., received signal strength) for the terminal.

  • Patent number: 9088930
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention direct a mobile device to communicate using a particular radio access technology when multiple access technologies are available. Many mobile devices have the capability to use multiple radio access technologies. The process of providing access guidance to the mobile device at a point in time is described herein as a radio access discovery and selection event. Embodiments of the present invention may complete the event using only two messages. In one embodiment, the first message is a SIP OPTIONS message communicated from the mobile device to the access guidance component. This message identifies the mobile device and the mobile device's present location. In one embodiment, the location identification information is communicated within the PANI header. In response, the access guidance component communicates a preferred radio access technology within a SIP 200 OK message.

  • Patent number: 9083789
Abstract: A mobile communication device stores a contact list which includes a plurality of contacts, and identifies a user selection to map a location of a selected contact. In response, the device reads an address from an address field of the selected contact, sends to an address geocoding server the address with a request for latitude and longitude coordinates, and receives from the address geocoding server the coordinates. When map rendering data corresponding to the coordinates is cached in memory, the device renders a map based on the map rendering data. Otherwise, the device sends to a map server the coordinates with a request for context-filtered map data, which is based at least in part on a user context independent of the location of the device. The device receives the context-filtered map data, and renders a map based on the received context-filtered map data.
