Abstract: Systems and methods presented herein provide for countering functionality on a UE that prevents the UE from requesting asset insertion into COD content. An ADS evaluates and ranks a plurality of assets for insertion into the selected COD content. A request manager determines that the UE is blocking a request for asset insertion into COD content selected by the UE, and generates a message for the UE requesting payload delivery information for the selected COD content based on the determination. The message circumvents the blocking and directs the UE to request asset insertion. The request manager processes a response from the UE for the payload delivery information, extracts a request for asset insertion from the response, directs the ADS to select a first of the assets based on the ranking, and directs the remote COD provider to insert the first asset with the selected COD content.

Abstract: A display apparatus includes a signal receiver configured to receive a broadcast signal comprising a broadcast content and channel information and corresponding to a plurality of channels, a signal processor configured to process the received broadcast signal and extract the broadcast content and the channel information from the broadcast signal, a display configured to display an image based on the extracted broadcast content, and a controller configured to determine a plurality of overlapped channels, which have the same broadcast content but are different in a type of broadcast content, based on the extracted channel information, and perform a control operation for the determined overlapped channels. A method of controlling the display apparatus includes determining a plurality of overlapped channels, which have the same broadcast content but are different in a type of broadcast content, based on the extracted channel information, and performing a control operation for the determined overlapped channels.

Abstract: Disclosed are a digital TV and a method for controlling same. The method for controlling a digital TV according to one embodiment of the present invention includes: displaying a user interface (UI) capable of selecting the standby mode for a power-off operation; and disconnecting the power source for a display panel so as to enter the standby mode when the standby mode is set through the UI in the power-off operation, and a power-off command is received. The standby mode includes a lower standby mode based on the operation of the digital TV and a network function, and the digital TV in the standby mode stops AV channel communication and performs SI channel communication.

Abstract: A set-top box with enhanced content and system and method for use of the same are disclosed. In one embodiment, a wireless transceiver is located within a housing, which also interconnectively includes a television input, television output, a processor, and memory. The set-top box may establish a pairing with a proximate wireless-enabled interactive programmable device having a display. Content, such as the Internet, movies, music, or games, for example, may be imported from the programmable device and reformatted at the set-top box for display on a television via the television output, thereby creating an experience on the television parallel to the experience on the programmable device. Virtual remote control functionality may then be provided by a spoken sequence of words.

Abstract: A broadcast signal reception method and a reception system are provided. The reception system includes a first processor, a second processor, and a storage medium. The first processor receives and processes a signaling table, the signaling table comprising first signaling information including access information of Non-Real-Time (NRT) service data and second signaling information including media object association information of the NRT service data. The second processor receives the NRT service data and processes a file including the received NRT service data based on the access information and the media object association information processed by the first processor. The storage medium stores the processed file of the NRT service data.

Abstract: Methods, systems, devices and computer program products are provided to facilitate enhanced use and interaction with multimedia content that is based on a time-varying evaluation of the multimedia content. While a content is being presented on a first device, timing information identifying temporal locations of segments of the content within a content timeline are extracted. While the content is still being presented, a feedback received from the user is associated with the content using the timing information and transmitted to a database. The user then receives a response corresponding to feedback provided by a plurality of consumers of the multimedia content on a segment-by-segment basis.

Abstract: A method of providing a user interface for managing a digital video compression system comprises the steps of receiving system configuration information relating to the digital video compression system being managed, and partitioning the system into a plurality of transform stages, each transform stage representing a transformation that can be performed on a signal stream as a signal stream flows through the system. A signal stream is represented using one or more signal blocks, wherein a signal block contains information relating to a signal stream within a transform stage. A view of the system is generated, wherein the view of the system is represented as one or more signal streams through the system, and one or more signal blocks along each of said signal streams. The view of the system is modified in response to user commands.

Abstract: A system includes a processor and a memory. The memory stores instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations including sending a primary multicast video stream and a secondary multicast video stream to a media device. The secondary multicast video stream is limited to intra-coded frames (I-frames) extracted from the primary multicast video stream. Transmission of each intra-coded frame (I-frame) of the secondary multicast video stream is delayed with respect to transmission of a corresponding I-frame of the primary multicast video stream. The delay is based on an amount of writing time to satisfy a buffer threshold of a video content buffer at the media device to prevent a noticeable time shift of video displayed by the media device when the media device switches from outputting the secondary multicast video stream to outputting the primary multicast video stream.

Abstract: Techniques for delivering content, such as videos, over a network are described. A core server and an edge server are provided. The core server has local storage. The edge server has local storage. A set of video frames is partitioned into a first group and a second group. Video frames in the first group are encoded into a scalable encoded stream. The scalable encoded stream is sent to the local storage at the edge server. The second group of video frames is encoded into a set of supplemental encoded streams using the scalable encoded stream as a reference. The supplemental encoded streams are encoded such that the bit rate and/or resolution of any two supplemental encoded streams is different. The set of supplemental encoded streams is stored in the storage of the core server.

Abstract: In a video delivery context, collection and analysis of viewing data can provide insight into viewer interaction with video and the Internet. The viewing data can be transmitted in a controlled manner to a data repository. The system can selectively target specific viewers/households to obtain viewing data, which can be combined with demographics, anonymized, and encrypted. Embodiments enable precision selection of media opportunities, by determining detailed characteristics associated with broadcasts including movement of audiences and specific viewer behavior, such as visits to websites on the Internet. The effective yield of broadcasts, including promotional spots and advertisements, can be determined and predicted based on concrete data at a level of detail down to individual viewers. Accordingly, embodiments enable improvement of the effectiveness and return on investment for programming, promotional spots, and advertisements.

Abstract: A client device receives streamed encoded content data, such as encoded video data, which has been encoded at a constant perceptual quality. Several different versions of the content are available to be streamed to the device, at different perceptual quality levels. In order to decide which quality level to request from a content server at intervals the device calculates the delivery rates that would be required for each level of quality. The calculation of the delivery levels is made in dependence on whether the actual delivery rate that has been received so far is greater than or less than a constant bit rate delivery schedule that decreases monotonically but which guarantees to deliver the encoded data in a timely manner such that no buffer underflow and interruption of reproduction takes place.

Abstract: A method is performed using a smart TV, which receives from a television signal source device a television signal feed encoding primary television content and then presents that content. The smart TV receives data via the computer network, including first data representing a to-be-replaced portion of the primary television content and second data representing secondary television content.
