  • Patent number: 9887923
Abstract: Systems and methods which provide resource sharing techniques implementing opportunistic shared resource utilization using dynamic traffic shaping are disclosed. Embodiments implement a multi-part transmission frame generation process in which data packets of various different traffic flows are selected for the transmission frame to fill the frame capacity. For example, scheduling logic may apply traffic shaping logic to select data packet queues from which data packets are to be included in a frame and to initially determine a number of packets to be included in the frame from each selected data packet queue according to the traffic shaping logic. Thereafter, the frame may be analyzed to determine if excess capacity remains. The scheduling logic may then apply traffic shaping logic to the data packet queues to implement an opportunistic scheme for including additional data packets in the frame and thereby fill the excess capacity.

  • Patent number: 9886812
Abstract: In this disclosure, methods for antenna combining to meet the pilot requirement of the massive MIMO system, and apparatuses for the same are provided. In a user equipment (UE) perspective of view, the UE transmits first pilot signals via each of multiple antennas of the UE, and receives antenna combining information from a base station. Here, the antenna combining information combines the multiple antennas into one or more antenna groups based on the first pilot signals, and each of orthogonal sequences is allocated to each of the antenna groups. The UE transmits second pilot signals using the allocated orthogonal sequences for each of the antenna groups. The second pilot signals can be used for estimating downlink channel from the base station to the UE.

  • Patent number: 9853894
Abstract: Tunnels are established between nodes along a packet transfer route in a communication network so that a packet is transferred from a first relay node to a second relay node via one or more intermediate relay nodes using the established tunnels. An intermediate relay node receives, from an adjacent downstream relay node, a reply message storing relay-node addresses identifying the downstream relay node and at least one intermediate relay node between the downstream relay node and the first relay node. The intermediate relay node establishes a tunnel to the downstream relay node in association with the relay-node address of the downstream relay node, updates the reply message by removing the relay-node address of the down stream relay node from the reply message, and transfers the updated reply message to an adjacent upstream relay node along the packet transfer route.

  • Patent number: 9839045
Abstract: Described herein is a silent period method and apparatus for dynamic spectrum management. The methods include configuration and coordination of silent periods across an aggregated channel in a wireless communication system. A silent period management entity (SPME) dynamically determines silent period schedules for channels based on system and device information and assigns a silent period duration and periodicity for each silent period. The SPME may reconfigure the silent period schedule based on system delay, system throughput, channel quality or channel management events. A silent period interpretation entity (SPIE) receives and implements the silent period schedule. The silent periods for the channels may be synchronized, independent, or set-synchronized.

  • Patent number: 9787490
Abstract: Communication systems and methods are presented for aggregating sites when connectivity to a core and zone controller therein is lost. A local controller provides multicast control to sub-sites within a locally aggregated network after detecting loss of connectivity to the core. The local controller assigns different multicast addresses than multicast addresses assigned by the zone controller. A sparse and dense mode protocol is used for multicast traffic outside and within the locally aggregated network, respectively. Conventional resources, but not trunked resources, are assigned addresses and groups. An isolated site is able to connect to the network in the event of core failure so that conventional multicast traffic traverses a direct link between each isolated site and the network, thereby extending the locally aggregated network. Multicast addresses available to be assigned by a local controller within any locally aggregated networks can be the same as those assigned by other local controllers.

  • Patent number: 9780859
Abstract: Aircrafts flying near Earth or naval vessels are used as active scattering platforms in a multipath communications channel in MIMO communications systems. These man-made platforms in a communications channel, with techniques of beam forming and wavefront multiplexing in both transmitters at source and receivers at destinations enhance the ability to coherently combine the power of the communication signals, and improve the signal-to-noise ratio in addition to the MIMO advantage of multiple times of channel capacity over a finite bandwidth via frequency reuse. These platforms may be stationary, mobile ground based, or ocean surface based. They may also be airborne, or space borne. A swarm of 10's micro-UAV based mini-transponders is an example through active scattering of these micro-UAV to generate 10× more available bandwidth between a base station and ground mobile users over same bandwidth.
