Abstract: The invention provides novel dialkyl sulphosuccinates in which one alkyl group is C.sub.6 and the other is C.sub.8, both alkyl groups preferably being straight chain. The soluble salts of these materials are useful detergents, exhibiting outstandingly good foaming performance, and may be used, for example, in shampoos, fabric washing compositions and, in particular, manual dishwashing compositions.
Abstract: A detergent composition with especially good foaming properties includes a di(C.sub.7 -C.sub.9) alkyl sulphosuccinate, preferably a di(C.sub.8 alkyl) sulphosuccinate, and an unsymmetrical dialkyl sulphosuccinate in which one alkyl group is C.sub.7 -C.sub.9 and the other is C.sub.3 -C.sub.6, preferably a (C.sub.6 alkyl) (C.sub.8 alkyl) sulphosuccinate. A di(C.sub.3 -C.sub.6) alkyl sulphosuccinate may advantageously be present. An especially preferred mixture comprises di(n-octyl), (n-octyl n-hexyl) and di(n-hexyl) sulphosuccinates, and this mixture may be prepared by esterifying maleic anhydride or the like with a mixture of n-octanol and n-butanol, followed by bisulphite addition. The detergent composition is preferably in liquid form and is suitable for shampoos, fabric washing and, in particular, manual dishwashing.

Abstract: Disclosed is a thixotropic automatic dishwasher composition having an aqueous solvent, a thickening agent, a source of chlorine, detergency levels of an anionic surfactant, builder salts and a buffer system to stabilize the chlorine source with the composition. The composition is dispensed by shearing the gel form of the thixotropic composition and thus having the composition develop the flow properties of a viscous liquid for the purpose of depositing the composition within the detergent compartment of an automatic dishwasher, but which quickly thereafter re-gels to acquire non-flowing properties unlike those of a liquid and substantially similar to the properties of a cohesive solid.
Abstract: Stripping compositions for removing resist materials from substrates comprise compositions of a 2-pyrrolidinone compound and a diethylene glycol monoalkyl ether compound. Polyethylene glycol may be added to provide even more effective stripping compositions.

Abstract: Particles for softening fabrics either in a wash liquor or in the rinse, are formed from a liquid mixture comprising water, a cationic material, such as a quaternary ammonium compound, urea and a calcium soap. The particles are formed from the liquid mixture by cooling to a solid and then grinding or by spray cooling. Weathering to form a crisp free flowing powder is optional. The presence of water in the liquid mixture improves the processing of the particles.
Abstract: Liquid and solid compositions are provided for souring and imparting softness to freshly laundered textile materials. When in the form of a stable homogeneous liquid, the composition may contain (a) a quaternized fatty amide, an aqueous emulsion of partially oxidized polyethylene or a fatty amphoteric compound as the softening agent, (b) hydrofluorosilicic acid, ammonium silicofluoride, zinc silicofluoride, ammonium acid fluoride, potassium acid fluoride, or orthophosphoric acid as the souring agent, and (c) water. When in the form of a stable dry solid, the composition may contain (a) a quaternized fatty amide or fatty amphoteric compound as the softening agent, and (b) ammonium silicofluoride, potassium silicofluoride, sodium silicofluoride, zinc silicofluoride, ammonium acid fluoride, sodium acid fluoride or potassium acid fluoride. A method of preparing the liquid composition is provided which insures that it remains stable and homogeneous while awaiting use.
