    Abstract: The present invention relates to compounds containing an oxamic acid group, which show high reactivity and have stability for water and are used as paints, adhesives, and plastic materials etc. in the form of a reaction material or a resin. Since into these compounds an oxamic acid group is introduced in a part of the molecule and the oxamic acid group is an ionic functional group, the compounds show superior solubility and dispersing character in water and also, since the oxamic acid group is a group of a disappearing type with heating, the compounds do not remain, after hardening, in the hardened product. Accordingly, the hardened products obtained from these compounds are superior in water-resistant and anticorrosion properties and in durability.

    Abstract: A water-based vacuum forming laminating adhesive is disclosed. The adhesive includes a vinyl acetate polymer, an ionic water-dispersed polyurethane, and an aziridine. The composition is also substantially free of potentiometrically titratable acid. Also disclosed is a process for adhering a thermoplastic material to a rigid substrate. This process includes applying the above-described adhesive composition to the substrate, drying the composition, heating the thermoplastic material, contacting the thermoplastic material to the dry composition, and applying a vacuum to the thermoplastic material and the substrate for at least about; 10 seconds so as to adhere the thermoplastic material to the substrate. The composition of the present invention is particularly stable and can be used as a one component adhesive for up to 90 days.

    Abstract: Stable aqueous microdispersions of finely divided polyamide resin particles and methods for the manufacture thereof are provided. The properties of these microdispersions are achieved by the addition thereto of an effective amount of a co-surfactant such as a lower alkyl alcohol. The provided microdispersions can be drawn into films which will form clear, continuous films at ambient or near-ambient temperatures regardless of the softening point of the polyamide resin. Dispersions according to this invention find use in hot melt adhesives, coatings, inks, and the like.

    Abstract: Thermoplastic elastomeric ablative insulation having good mechanical properties at extremely low temperatures are disclosed. The insulation is based upon a polyamide-ether resin and includes carefully selected fillers to possess good low temperature mechanical properties and still provide suitable charring and ablative insulation performance at low temperatures (-65.degree. F.). A typical insulation within the scope of the present invention includes a polyamide-ether thermoplastic elastomeric polymer resin, an inorganic phosphorus containing compound, such as ammonium polyphosphate, present in the insulation from about 5 to about 60 phr, and a polyhydric alcohol present, such as pentaerythritol, in the insulation from about 1 to about 30 phr. The insulation compositions within the scope of the present invention optionally include silicone resin present in the insulation in range from about 0 to 15 phr. Chopped fiber filler may also be present in the insulation in range from about 0 to 100 phr.

The gel has a natural or synthetically derived hydrocolloid swollen with a non-volatile swelling agent, such that the gel may have a shear modulus of less than 6.2.times.10.sub.6 dynes/cm.sup.2 The gel-adhesive composite has continued skin adhesion whether applied to or existing in dry or moist skin conditions. The gel contributes a high moisture vapor transmission rate to attempt to maintain dry skin conditions while the adhesive maintains skin adhesion. The gel-adhesive composite may be used in a variety of tape, dressing, bandage, drape, or other skin contacting usage and may optionally include antimicrobial agents to treat the skin while adhesion continues.

    Abstract: Gasketing paper is commonly made by the beater addition process. In the beater addition process a furnish composition is prepared by mixing latex into a fiber slurry which also typically contains one or more fillers. The beater addition process is currently being scrutinized because of environmental concerns. More specifically, conventional lattices used in the beater addition process contain curatives, such as amines, sulfur, and zinc compounds, which are discharged into the environment via the affluent from the process. By practicing the process of this invention gasketing paper can be manufactured by an environmentally sound technique. In one embodiment of this invention gasketing paper is made by beater addition with the latex utilized in the process being comprised of (a) at least one rubber having both pendant blocked isocyanate groups and groups containing at least one active Zerewitinoff hydrogen, (b) at least one emulsifier, and (c) water.
