  • Patent number: 6223415
Abstract: A process for manufacturing an Al—Si alloy for use in a vehicle propeller shaft is provided. The Al—Si alloy manufacturing process includes the steps of heating and melting Al—Si alloy where Si contains 13-40 weight percentage (wt %) of the whole alloy, to thereby prepare melt, maintaining the melt at 700-900° C. and then spraying an high pressure inert gas to the melt and rapidly solidifying the same to thereby obtain a forming body, and extruding the forming body at 400-550° C. The physical properties of the Al—Si alloy manufactured by a spray forming process is at least similar to that of the vehicle propeller shafts which have been already known, and also spotlighted as new alloy compositions which can replace the conventional propeller shaft material.

  • Patent number: 6219918
Abstract: A spoked wheel rim having a hub defining an axis, a plurality of spokes projecting radially from the hub, and a rim ring attached to outer ends of the spokes is machined by first mounting it in a loading/unloading station into a holder rotatable about a holder axis with the rim axis generally coaxial with the holder axis. Then the holder is orbited by a turntable carrying the holder from the loading/unloading station into a working station angularly offset relative to the loading/unloading station about a turntable axis between the stations. A rotating tool is then displaced by means of a head carried on a hexapod positioner at least over surfaces of the spokes while holding the rim stationary in the working station to machine the surfaces. The rim is then continuously rotated about the holder axis in the working station while engaging a rotating tool carried on the hexapod positioner with an edge of the rim ring to machine the edge.

  • Patent number: 6216332
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of manufacturing a non-stick pan. The first step is to apply and spread a ceramic and porcelaneous mixture coat and a Teflon coat on the surface of a percussion-molded pan made of non-carbon iron board. The two coats are respectively dealt at different high temperatures and time, and the surface of the ceramic and porcelaneous mixture coat is made to be concave-convex for the Teflon coat to be firmly adhered to. Therefore, the non-stick pan is provided with a strong surface to prevent from being stripped or scratched by a slice or a steel brush.

  • Patent number: 6212750
Abstract: A method and apparatus for repairing a casting in a cold metal repair process includes a plurality of drilling fixtures which facilitate the creation of one or more lock receiving recesses positioned generally transverse to the casting crack. The lock receiving recesses are formed of a single sized circular bore combination having alternating double and single circular portions to maximize strength. A plurality of correspondingly configured metal locks are inserted into the lock receiving recesses to provide transverse metal locks drawing the casting portions on each side of the crack together. A plurality of threaded bores are formed along the remainder of the casting crack in overlapping spacing which receive a corresponding plurality of stitching pins. The stitching pins each define threaded shaft portions having pointed ends and undersized major pitch diameter threads adjacent the pointed ends.

  • Patent number: 6199264
Abstract: A gfi wiring device is disclosed in the form of a duplex receptacle for receiving the blades of a plug connecting an electrical appliance or other load to the circuit wherein the gfi device is connected. The housing sections and components of the gfi are so configured and relatively arranged that the device may be automatically assembled by downward, vertical movement of the components and the front housing section in a predetermined sequence relative to the rear housing section as the latter is positioned on a horizontal support. The device is operationally tested after assembly is complete and, upon successful testing, the housing sections are permanently connected by heat deformation of portions of one section to form a rivet-like connection. Reliability of testing is improved by breaking the usual traces on a printed circuit board extending between terminals to which jumper cables are connected to provide a fail-safe indication of circuit continuity through the jumper cables.

  • Patent number: 6185803
Abstract: A non-woven fabric liner comprising a plurality of bonded fibers is attached to the inner surface of one of the upper and lower shells of a disk cartridge. A main body of the fabric liner lies against the inner surface of the shell and is spaced a predetermined distance from a corresponding surface of the storage media within the cartridge. A region of the fabric liner is subjected to a fuzzing process in which the bonded fibers in that region are loosened to form a region of upstanding fibers that extend from the main body of the liner to the surface of the disk. The upstanding fibers wipe the surface of the disk while the main body of the liner remains spaced from the disk, thereby reducing drag.
