  • Patent number: 4899940
Abstract: A spray washing appliance is disclosed, having special utility in connection with washing of motor vehicles and the like. The appliance comprises a primary gripping handle, typically in the configuration of a pistol grip, which mounts an elongated, rotatable wand provided at its outer end with a spray discharge nozzle. The wand has a manipulating grip, spaced from the primary grip, and is provided with at least one relatively sharp bend adjacent the nozzle portion, and preferably with a second, opposite bend part way between the manipulating grip and the nozzle section. An operator holds the appliance with the primary grip in one hand and the manipulating grip in the other. By rotating the wand relative to the handle, the operator can with ease and convenience spray all areas of a vehicle, including relatively inaccessible areas, such as the undercarriage, roof, etc.

  • Patent number: 4898330
Abstract: Deicer sprayer for deicing aircraft includes a deicer fluid container with an enclosed thermostatically controlled electrical heater designed for connection to an external power source to heat deicer fluid prior to its application to an aircraft wing. A flexible line having a hand operated valve, a wand and an adjustable spray nozzle connected to the container allow directed delivery of the deicing fluid. The deicer fluid container can be enclosed within a thermal insulation blanket which helps to maintain the deicer fluid temperature during system use. Attached to the deicer fluid container is a carrying strap and harness which permits the individual user to move about easily during the operation of the portable deicer sprayer system while deicing aircraft.

  • Patent number: 4892254
Abstract: An actuator positioning convergent/divergent nozzle flaps is supported from a stiffner on a support structure. An interface fairing for separating possible hot gas flow from engine fumes is supported from the support structure at a location which avoids fairing deflecting as a function of stiffner deflection. Interference between the fairing and nozzle flap drive is thereby avoided.

  • Patent number: 4878615
Abstract: Method and apparatus for the evaporation of a solution into the ambient air. The apparatus contains a reservoir having at least one elastic wall; a first compartment outside the reservoir having an opening to the ambient air; a passage which may be intermittently opened and closed, connecting the reservoir to the first compartment; and, an absorbent material placed on a support which is outside both the reservoir and the first compartment, and which is in contact with the first compartment. By exerting pressure on the elastic wall of the reservoir, solution may be transferred from the reservoir to the first compartment through the passage when it is open. The passage is kept closed during the time intervals between intermittent transfers of the solution. The portion of solution which has been transferred to the first compartment is gradually and continuously transferred to the absorbent material for evaporation to the ambient air.

  • Patent number: 4878620
Abstract: A rotary vane nozzle 10 having a rotary vane member (12) rotatably mounted to a stationary vane member (14). The rotary vane member (12) includes a plurality of vanes (20) for directing the flow of air (50) in a first plane oblique to the X axis. A propeller vane (22) formed on the rotary vane member (12) reacts to the force of the airflow (50) to rotate the rotary vane member (12) to thereby rotate the first plane of airflow about the X axis. As the rotating airflow passes through the stationary vane member (14) the airflow 50 is directed into a second plane to laterally reciprocate in the second plane of airflow.

  • Patent number: 4872611
Abstract: The present invention comprises a venturi- and snorkel-less water fountain nozzle that creates low mounds of flowing water for water fountain displays. Instead of incorporating a venturi and snorkel like prior art nozzles, the present invention features an inverted cone dispersion element mounted partially within the nozzle that accelerates water flowing through the nozzle and directs it radially outwards to produce the appearance of a mound. The nozzle is typically submerged under 1/2 to 3/4 inches of water. The appearance of the mound can be varied by varying the depth of submergence of, or the flow rate of water through the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4858830
Abstract: A spraying device comprising a spray tube having a fluid entrance end connectable to a primary fluid source, and a fluid exit end upon which an additive fluid dispenser is removably mounted. The additive fluid dispenser, having a chamber for holding additive fluid and a mixing chamber, is coupled to the fluid exit end of the spray tube in coaxial alignment with the direction of flow of primary fluid through the spray tube, causing opening of a valve mechanism in the fluid dispenser. The additive fluid then is metered into the primary fluid flowing through the dispenser, by diverting a portion of the primary fluid flow against a movable piston on a piston guide member-primary fluid conduit, to cause flow of the additive fluid through the valve mechanism. The spray tube may be of elongated telescoping construction, or of nontelescoping construction, and may include a control valve.

  • Patent number: 4858826
Abstract: The invention consists of a colored flame system for illuminating water fountains. A burner assembly, comprising a main burner, a pilot burner, an igniter, a flame sensor and multiple colorant nozzles is located adjacent to one or more water nozzles of the fountain. A control unit oversees operation of the system. Upon commands from an operator, the control unit causes the pilot and main burners to light and injects the desired colorants into the main burner flame. The colorants are concentrated solutions of metallic salts. The flame sensor acts as a safety device insuring that gas and colorants are emitted only when the pilot and main burners are lit.
