  • Patent number: 4899270
Abstract: A DC to DC power supply including an energy transferring snubber circuit produces a changing magnetic flux by opening and closing a switching element to interrupt current flow in a first inductor. A current is induced in a second inductor in response to the changing magnetic flux. A first capacitor is charged with a current due to a first potential appearing across the switching element when the switching element is opened. The current induced in the second inductor and the current from the first capacitor is conducted to the load when the switching element is closed. A snubber circuit minimizes the first potential appearing across the switching element while transferring energy to the load.

  • Patent number: 4897774
Abstract: A monolithic integrated circuit containing an inverting/non-inverting voltage doubler charge pump circuit is disclosed for converting a unipolar supply voltage to a bipolar supply voltage of a greater magnitude. The unipolar input voltage is placed across a first external transfer capacitor by a first set of MOS switches during a first time period. The unipolar input voltage source is placed in series with the first transfer capacitor and this series combination of voltages is placed across a first external reservoir capacitor by a second set of MOS switches during a second time period. The voltage appearing across the first external reservoir capacitor is placed on a second transfer capacitor during the first time period by a third set of MOS switches. The voltage across the second transfer capacitor is placed into a second external reservoir capacitor with its polarity inverted by a fourth set of MOS switches during the second time period.

  • Patent number: 4897582
Abstract: A linear force actuator system for stabilizing a support structure employs a linear dc motor whose primary winding is driven by a pulse width modulation control signal representative of a force input, through which the secondary member of the motor which acts as an inertial mass, is to be controllably translated. For improved control accuracy, the actuator system of the invention employs a pair of feedback loops, one of which monitors the current in the motor's primary winding to maintain a constant force output to the secondary member and a secondary of which monitors long term deviations from the center of the secondary member and corrects for centering offsets. An opto-electronic position sensing arrangement monitors the movement of the secondary member whereby precise control of commutation of the coils of the primary winding and a smooth translation of the secondary member are obtained.

  • Patent number: 4896091
Abstract: The power converter (10) serves for conditioning an electricity supply for a load (12), whereby the supply is derived from a power source (11) and is adapted to the requirements of the load (12) in respect of the electrical values. The converter (10) comprises in its simplest version exclusively a transformer (13) and an inductive resistor connected in series with the latter and designated as an actuator (14). This actuator (14) is constructed from two coaxially-arranged, identical and annularly closed variety cores (111, 112), which are individually surrounded by partial windings of an induction winding (150) and jointly by a control winding (117). The latter (117) is joined to a control system (30), which by means of a control current (I) sets an inductivity value (L) of the actuator (14), which can be varied within wide ranges (1.100).

  • Patent number: 4896063
Abstract: An electromagnetic induction machine having inductively coupled primary, secondary and tertiary branch windings. The exciting current of the primary branch is transformed or reflected, via the inductive coupling, to an electrically separate secondary or tertiary branch. This reflected current in the isolated branch is sustained by connecting a capacitive load impedance to it. Thus, a floating parallel resonant circuit is formed which supplies the needed reactive component in lieu of the primary branch. Different winding techniques are then incorporated in the separate branches to maximize the available winding space and provide improved operating or performance characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4896064
Abstract: A low loss synchronous magnetic drive system for high pressure, high horsepower applications is disclosed. A carrier member driven by a drive motor carries spaced apart sets of drive magnets with the magnets of one set being of opposite polarity to the longitudinally aligned magnets of the other set. An output shaft carrying driven magnets oriented similarly to the drive magnets is also provided. A metallic hyperbaric barrier separates the drive and driven magnets. The barrier includes an outer cylinder having circumferentially spaced, radially directed, narrow slots extending therealong. Within the cylinder is a plurality of axially adjacent annular laminations insulated from each other. During operation the combination of the slotted cylinder, the laminations and the magnet arrangement keeps eddy currents generated in the barrier at a minimum, ensuring a high efficiency drive operable at speeds and pressures heretofore unattainable.

  • Patent number: 4894765
Abstract: In a method of and apparatus for connecting a storage battery to an elevator inverter, the storage battery being connected to a d.c. circuit of the elevator inverter power stage, a voltage in the d.c. circuit is higher than the battery voltage. Power flows bidirectionally from the storage battery to the d.c. circuit and vice versa. When power is flowing from the storage battery to the d.c. circuit, the battery voltage is matched to the voltage in the d.c. circuit by the aid of a semiconductor switch, by means of which an energy store is charged, and a diode, by which the energy in the energy store is discharged into the d.c. circuit. When power is flowing from the d.c. circuit to the storage battery, the voltage of the d.c. circuit is matched to the battery voltage with the aid of a second semiconductor switch, by means of which the energy store is charged, and a second diode, by which the energy in the energy store is discharged into the storage battery.

  • Patent number: 4894766
Abstract: The present invention achieves the above objects, among others, by providing apparatus for converting a supplied AC input signal into an AC output signal having a selected lower frequency than the frequency of the AC input signal, which apparatus translates individual half cycles of the supplied AC input signal to an intermediate output signal with selected amplitude and polarity such that during successive pairs of first and second periods, each such period corresponding to a predetermined number of half cycles of the AC input signal, the translated half cycles of the AC input signal all have the same first selected polarity during each first period and have the same second selected polarity during each second period, with the first and second polarities being opposite. The apparatus filters the intermediate output signal to develop the AC output signal having the selected lower frequency.
