  • Patent number: 5657764
Abstract: There is presented a urethral measuring device for determining the length of a human urethra, the measuring device comprising a member having an expandable portion at a first end and adapted to receive fluid from an external source at a second end. The member includes graduations arranged such that the graduations are located a pre-specified distance from the expandable portion. In certain embodiments, the graduations also are located at least "x" distance from the meatus of the urethra when the device is inserted and in an operative position. The measuring device further includes a collar slidably disposed and movable on the member and is used as a pointer against the graduations to measure the length of the urethra. There is further presented a method for determining the length of a urethra, utilizing the aforesaid device.

  • Patent number: 5640969
Abstract: A removable lid (10) for an analytical specimen cup (12) of a type for defining a test space (26) with a chemical strip (24) mounted therein includes a selectively-removable protective cover (16) for selectively covering and uncovering an outer surface of a transparent portion of an outer partition (18) forming the test space. The protective cover is formed as one piece with an inner partition to be attached thereto by a dual living hinge (28a and b). The lid is rectangular in shape and includes an elongated magnifying lens (20) which has protrusions extending into blind holes (62) of the inner partition. The magnifying lens extends across the transparent portion of the outer partition. When the protective cover is in a closed position it impinges on the magnifying lens. A peel-off color analysis chart (22) is mounted on an inside surface of the protective cover.

  • Patent number: 5620415
Abstract: A surgical instrument in which a surgical tool is carried distally of a bend region in a stationary support member by an assembly that transmits proximally applied forces through the bend region to both operate the surgical tool and selectively change the rotational orientation of the surgical tool with respect to the stationary member. In another aspect, in which the stationary member does not include a bend region, a rotatable member supported by the stationary member transmits rotational force to the surgical tool to selectively change the rotational orientation of the tool, and a driver member supported by the stationary member transmits axial force to the surgical tool to operate it.
