  • Patent number: 10725728
Abstract: An apparatus and system for generating sound and methods for making and using same. A motor-driving signal with an audio signal component is applied to a motor. When driven by the motor-driving signal, the motor thereby can generate a sound that corresponds to the audio signal component. An exemplary sound can include high-quality audio content such as music, speech, or a combination thereof. The motor-driving signal can be produced by modulating a carrier signal with the audio signal and can enable a vibration in the motor for generating the sound. When associated with a mobile platform, the motor can be configured to generate the sound and enable the mobile platform to move. Advantageously, without installing separate audio system hardware, the mobile platform thereby is capable of conveying information that is audible and comprehensible to a human. Communication efficiency between the human and the mobile platform can thus be improved.

  • Patent number: 10698948
Abstract: In an example context of identifying live audio, an audio processor machine accesses audio data that represents a query sound and creates a spectrogram from the audio data. Each segment of the spectrogram represents a different time slice in the query sound. For each time slice, the audio processor machine determines one or more dominant frequencies and an aggregate energy value that represents a combination of all the energy for that dominant frequency and its harmonics. The machine creates a harmonogram by representing these aggregate energy values at these dominant frequencies in each time slice. The harmonogram thus may represent the strongest harmonic components within the query sound. The machine can identify the query sound by comparing its harmonogram to other harmonograms of other sounds and may respond to a user's submission of the query sound by providing an identifier of the query sound to the user.

  • Patent number: 10691404
Abstract: Technologies for cryptographic protection of I/O audio data include a computing device with a cryptographic engine and an audio controller. A trusted software component may request an untrusted audio driver to establish an audio session with the audio controller that is associated with an audio codec. The trusted software component may verify that a stream identifier associated with the audio session received from the audio driver matches a stream identifier received from the codec. The trusted software may program the cryptographic engine with a DMA channel identifier associated with the codec, and the audio controller may assert the channel identifier in each DMA transaction associated with the audio session. The cryptographic engine cryptographically protects audio data associated with the audio session. The audio controller may lock the controller topology after establishing the audio session, to prevent re-routing of audio during a trusted audio session. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 10679407
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media for simulating sound propagation are disclosed. According to one method, the method includes decomposing a virtual environment scene including at least one object into a plurality of surface regions, wherein each of the surface regions includes a plurality of surface patches. The method further includes organizing sound rays generated by a sound source in the virtual environment scene into a plurality of path tracing groups, wherein each of the path tracing groups comprises a group of the rays that traverses a sequence of surface patches. The method also includes determining, for each of the path tracing groups, a sound intensity by combining a sound intensity computed for a current time with one or more previously computed sound intensities respectively associated with previous times and generating a simulated output sound at a listener position using the determined sound intensities.

  • Patent number: 10649716
Abstract: An audio/video (A/V) hub that coordinates playback of audio content is described. In particular, the A/V hub may calculate current time offsets between clocks in electronic devices (such as electronic devices that include speakers) and a clock in the A/V hub based on measured sound corresponding to one or more acoustic-characterization patterns, one or more times when the electronic devices output the sound and the one or more acoustic-characterization patterns. Then, the A/V hub may transmit, to the electronic devices, one or more frames that include audio content and playback timing information, which may specify playback times when the electronic devices are to playback the audio content based on the current time offsets. Moreover, the playback times of the electronic devices may have a temporal relationship so that the playback of the audio content by the electronic devices is coordinated.
