The apparatus contains a top end and a bottom end wherein the top end represents a manic region and the bottom end represents a depression region. Between these two regions are the mild depression region, the normal region, and the hypomania region proceeding in order from bottom to top. Various elements that represent psychological states are provided so that the user can place the elements that represent that person's current state onto the appropriate region.
