  • Patent number: 5027513
Abstract: A relatively thick-bodied doctor blade made of a low friction plastic material includes a seal relief bevel of between approximately 5 and 10 degrees. The blade then tapers to a tip support shape and tip of between approximately 0.001 and 0.005 inch. When used in conjunction with a chamber type inking system, the doctor blade cooperates with the chamber end seals to form a more positive and controlled seal therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5027516
Abstract: A manually held tool for cutting a polymeric endless power transmission belt body having alternating ribs and grooves; the tool comprising a pair of holding members for holding knife blades, and a handle around the holding members. The holding members are angled to fit within the grooves, and taper from the body to the tip, each end of the members have a different tip thickness and either end may hold a knife blade to fit belt body grooves of different thicknesses and permit cutting through selected grooves to form a plurality of endless belts having at least one rib. The tool is particularly adapted to cut belt bodies in an environment lacking in special machinery so that an operator can hold the body manually while performing the cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 5027512
Abstract: A manual tool useful for cutting, scraping, deburring, marking and the like hand operations, is formed of an elongated handle shaped to fit within the human hand. The handle has a forward end formed with a socket for receiving a conventional, wafer-like, machine tool hard cutter insert. The insert fits within a socket which exposes a forward end of the insert and portions of the insert side edges for contact with a work piece. The insert may be fastened within the socket within the handle by means of a suitable, conventional screw fastener or the like. The insert may be pre-selected from a conventional insert having a conventional circular, square, diamond-shaped, hexagonal shape, triangular and the like peripheral edge and the socket is formed so that similar size, but different peripheral edge shaped inserts may be replaced, one for another, as desired. Thus, new or used conventional machine tool cutter inserts may be utilized in the tool at the user's option.

  • Patent number: 5025558
Abstract: A utility knife comprises a lower elongate part shell 1 and an upper such part shell 3 forwardly fitted with interengaging wedging surfaces whereby they clamp together on relative longitudinal movement. This movement is achieved by turning nut 2 on shank 8 to bear on wall 30. The loosening of the nut 2 to unclamp the part shells and thus permit blade 43 to be pushed forward with slider 42 by pushbutton 41 does not separate the part shells 1 and 3 since the end spur 9 of the shank 8 still rides on arresting web 37. Maximum unscrewing of the nut, however, permits separation e.g. for access to stack of spare blades 60 resiliently held at 59 in the rearward part of shell 1 (now unencumbered by the conventional screw-shank), but does not lead to loss of nut 2 because of a complementary detent configuration 25 at the end of the shank and in the end wall 2a of the nut prevents complete nut/shank separation.

  • Patent number: 5025562
Abstract: The reciprocating saw incorporates a counterbalanced reciprocating drive having a jackshaft on which primary and secondary wobble plates are mounted. The wobble plates drive reciprocating saw spindle and a concentric counterweight in opposite directions to cancel out the induced vibrations. The spindle reciprocates in a bearing sleeve having a slot through which the primary wobble arm projects to drive the spindle. The counterweight slides on the outside of the sleeve and has a slot which slides over the primary arm. The secondary arm drives the counterweight. The arms are out of alignment to permit their strokes to overlap without collision. The wobble plates are angled out of 180.degree. so the spindle and counterbalance reverse at the same time. The cutting stroke and speed are increased and vibration is insignificant. The drive has many other uses.

  • Patent number: 5014429
Abstract: A utility knife includes a mechanism for detaching the individual blade segments along segmentation lines from a segmented knife blade. The detachment mechanism includes a plunger located at the forward end of the utility knife. An adjustment mechanism advances the knife blade for alignment between the plunger and a retention chamber. Actuation of the plunger exerts a transverse force on the blade segment, detaching same from the remainder of the blade. The retention chamber prevents the detached blade segment from flying from the utility knife where it could cause injury or damage. Optionally, the utility knife may include a spare blade storage compartment and/or a guidance mechanism to facilitate the cutting of straight or curved lines in particular situations.
