  • Patent number: 5368643
Abstract: A board to be coated is conveyed by means of first transport means in the form of a roller conveyor to a curtain coating device. The latter comprises second transport means in the form of two conveyor belts, each of which runs round an associated straightening bar in the direction of transport of the board. The straightening bars are movable and as they move towards one another they align the boards at the side edges thereof in such a manner that the side edges extend approximately parallel to the direction of transport of the board. Conical rollers are connected to the straightening bars. During alignment, that is to say, when the straightening bars are moved towards one another, the board to be coated is at the same time lifted from the roller conveyor by means of the conical rollers and conveyed via the surfaces of the conical rollers to the conveyor belts. The latter engage laterally at the board edges and transport the board through a pouring curtain for the purpose of coating.

  • Patent number: 5358581
Abstract: Relatively short sections of photographic roll films (such sections can consist of a single film frame or of two or another small number of film frames) are provided with elongated strip-shaped extensions for convenient transport through a copying machine. Extensions are severed from the leader of a roll of convoluted flexible material having a width matching the desired length of an extension, and one end of a freshly severed extension is caused to overlap one end of a film section so that the extent of overlap is not more than the width of a frame line between two neighboring frames of a roll film. One side of each extension is fully coated with a layer of hotmelt, and the extension is sealed to the respective film section by a narrow elongated heating element which is moved against the overlapping ends of the film section and the properly oriented extension. The roll can be subdivided into wider or narrower extensions, depending upon the width of film sections which are to be connected with extensions.

  • Patent number: 5306374
Abstract: A handicraft is created on a first medium and temporarily retained thereon for transfer and permanent attachment to a second medium. More particularly, a pattern is printed on one side of a transparent or translucent sheet material. On the opposite side of the sheet material there is a coating of a pressure sensitive temporary adhesive through which a reverse image of the pattern is visible. The outer surfaces of a craft material are then placed onto the sheet material over the pattern and are held thereon by the temporary adhesive. When satisfied with the arrangement of the craft material on the sheet material, a permanent adhesive is applied to the exposed surface of the craft material. The assembly of the craft material and the underlying sheet is then pressed against a desired transfer surface, such as an item of clothing, and kept in place until the permanent adhesive dries.

  • Patent number: 5298105
Abstract: An optical fiber stripper is formed with an interior cylindrical elongate passage for housing a fiber length and for containing stripper fluid. To assure ample room for expansion of the fiber coating during stripping, the passage has a greater volume than that of the coated fiber after the coating expands from contact with the fluid. The passage has a fluid inlet at its interior end for introducing stripping fluid. A relatively sharp shoulder disposed at the interior end of the passage and formed by a short cylindrical neck section coaxial with the passage has a diameter only marginally greater than the diameter of the coated fiber. Once the coating in the passage is softened by the stripper fluid, the fiber is withdrawn allowing the shoulder to cleanly strip away the coating. Advantageously, the stripper is made from graphite, so that any incidental contact with the fiber during the draw-stripping operation has no deleterious effect on the fiber surface.
