Abstract: A high temperature superconducting, HTS, field coil. The HTS field coil comprises a plurality of turns and a partially insulating layer. The plurality of turns comprises HTS material and metallic stabilizer. The partially insulating layer separates the turns, such that current can be shared between turns via the partially insulating layer. The partially insulating layer comprises an electrically conducting layer, and first and second insulating layers. The electrically conducting layer is coated on one side with the first insulating layer and on the other side with the second insulating layer. Each insulating layer has one or more windows through which electrical contact can be made between the turns and the electrically conducting layer. The windows in the first insulating layer are offset in the plane of the electrically conducting strip from the windows in the second insulating layer.

Abstract: A method for desulfurizing molten steel comprising taking a sample out from molten steel after tapping from a converter or during secondary refining and analyzing the sample rapidly with high accuracy by a method comprising a high frequency induction heating step wherein the sample is combusted and oxidized under the high frequency induction heating in an oxygen atmosphere having an oxygen purity of 99.5 vol % or more to convert S in the sample into SO2 and an analyzing step wherein SO2-containing gas produced in the high frequency induction heating step is analyzed through an ultraviolet fluorescence method to quantify S concentration of the sample.
Abstract: The present invention provides a lead-free easy-to-cut corrosion-resistant brass alloy with good thermoforming performance. The brass alloy contains: 74.5-76.5 wt % of Cu, 3.0-3.5 wt % of Si, 0.11-0.2 wt % of Fe, 0.04-0.10% wt % of P, Zn and inevitable impurities. The alloy provided by the present invention has good cold-working and hot-working forming performance, and good dezincification corrosion-resistant and stress corrosion-resistant performance, applies to parts that require cutting and grinding forming in water-heating sanitaryware, electronic appliances, automobiles and the like, and especially applies to production and assembling of complex forging products for which stress is inconvenient to eliminate, such as water taps, values and the like.
Abstract: A micro-nano composite powder dedicated for laser repair of tiny crack on stainless steel surface, includes 3 wt %-7 wt % of nano-WC, 0.5 wt %-2 wt % of nano-Al2O3, 0.2 wt %-0.8 wt % of micro-V powder and the balance of micro stainless steel powder. The stainless steel powder includes 0.08 wt % of C, 0.5 wt % of Si, 1.46 wt % of Mn, 0.03 wt % of P, 0.005 wt % of S, 19 wt % of Cr, 9.5 wt % of Ni, 0.5 wt % of Mo and the balance of Fe. The micro and nano powders are mixed through ball milling and mixed with anhydrous ethanol. The composite powder is suitable for laser repair of tiny crack on the surface of stainless steel part with high toughness requirement. After laser repair, the composite powder can be fused with the substrate, the repaired layer and the substrate are metallurgically bonded at the interface, the repaired layer contains fine grains, and therefore the compatibility and fracture property of the repaired layer are improved.
Abstract: System and method for removing molecular contaminants from an air stream are disclosed. The system includes first, second and third filter. The first filter removes organic contaminants from an air stream passing through the first filter. The second filter is downstream of the first filter, is physically and chemically exchangeable with the first filter and removes organic contaminants from the air stream output of the first filter. The third filter, downstream of the second filter, is not exchangeable with the first filter or the second filter. The first position filter can be replaced by the second filter in the second position when the first filter in the first position becomes depleted as detected. A new filter in the second filter position is inserted. Replacing the depleted first filter with the second downstream filter reduces costs and waste while inserting the new filter in the second position ensures removing organic contaminants.

Abstract: An interconnected set of two or more stages of reactors to form a bio-reforming reactor that generates syngas for a number of different liquid fuel or chemical processes is discussed. A first stage includes a circulating fluidized bed reactor that is configured to cause a chemical devolatilization of the biomass into its reaction products of constituent gases, tars, chars, and other components, which exit through a reactor output from the first stage. A second stage of the bio-reforming reactor has an input configured to receive a stream of some of the reaction products that includes the constituent gases and at least some of the tars as raw syngas, and then chemically reacts the raw syngas within a vessel of the second stage to make the raw syngas from the first stage into a chemical grade syngas by further cracking the tars, excess methane, or both.

Abstract: Water soluble graphene oxide nanoparticles (GO) are provided having graphene sheets containing carboxylic and hydroxyl groups. The diameter of the GO when present in a closed form ranges from about 40 nm to 120 nm. Eco-friendly methods are provided for producing the GO. Methods for reversible encapsulation of a molecule within water soluble carbon nanoparticles (wsCNP) including the GO nanoparticles are provided that allow for delivery of the wsCNP loaded with therapeutic and/or imaging agents to a subject in need by releasing the therapeutic/imaging agent upon an increase in pH above about 7.2. The wsCNP have been shown to cross the blood brain barrier in a mouse model of vascular dementia, and methods are provided for delivering the wsCNP loaded with a therapeutic and/or imaging molecule to the brain.

Abstract: A deposition system for winding of a large-scale superconducting magnet coil. First and second conductor supports withstand the weight of a bent conductor and allow the conductor to be lowered down in spiral and be placed smoothly onto a rotary table. The rotary table bears the weight of coils, rotates according to a contour of the coil and forwarding speed of the conductor, and tracks the winding trajectory of the coil accurately, which avoids the extra stress induced onto the conductor. The conductor placed on the rotary table is reliably clamped by clamping fixtures and adjustable rod to ensure the conductors to be placed on correct radial and toroidal positions. After treated by the deposition system, the conductor is placed to a corresponding position on the rotary table smoothly and accurately to achieve a high-precision contour control of the coil.

Abstract: The invention concerns a process to manufacture a flat-rolled product, notably for the aeronautic industry containing aluminum alloy, in which, notably a flattening and/or stretching is performed with a cumulated deformation of at least 0.5% and less than 3% and a short heat-treatment is performed in which the sheet reaches a temperature between 130° C. and 170° C. for a period of 0.1 to 13 hours. The invention notably makes it possible to simplify the forming process of fuselage skins and to improve the balance between static mechanical strength properties and damage tolerance properties.
