  • Patent number: 4826448
Abstract: An electrical connector includes stab portions and a cam for urging a wire cord into contact therewith. The cam mounts in a tubular housing which is telescopically receivable in a sleeve. The cam and housing coact such that the cam head tends to move outwardly from the housing when the cam is moved to a position to release the wire cord, and this is prevented by the sleeve. As a corollary, if the cam is turned away from its wire locking position, the housing cannot be engaged with the sleeve. The sleeve acts as a conduit for the wire cord, whereby the cord tends to anchor the housing in telescoped position in the sleeve, to prevent unauthorized tampering with the connector.

  • Patent number: 4820199
Abstract: An electrical connector adapter is disclosed having front and rear insulators with corresponding contact cavities therein which are slightly laterally offset from each other. The contacts have intermediate bendable portions. One of the insulators is formed of a resilient material. After one end of the contacts are mounted in the other insulator, the contact cavities in the resilient insulator are expanded to slidably receive the other ends of the contacts therein. The expansive force is then released causing the resilient insulator to contract around the contacts therein to automatically bend the intermediate portions of the contacts to accommodate for the lateral offset of the contact cavities in the front and rear insulators.

  • Patent number: 4820182
Abstract: A low insertion force mating electrical contact structure includes a pair of hermaphroditic terminals. Each hermaphroditic terminal is provided with dual cantilevered contact beams disposed in spaced parallel relationship and extending from a common base. The terminals are stamped from flat metallic material to provide each beam with a plurality of opposite but symmetrical bends relative to its initial central plane. The bends define rear and front contact surfaces on each beam and with rear and front cam surfaces leading into the respective contact surfaces. Identical hermaphroditic terminals as described can be mated with low insertion forces initially achieved by sliding cam interaction between the respective rear and front cam surfaces of two such terminals. The normal forces and deflection gradually increase as the terminals approach their fully mated condition.

  • Patent number: 4815979
Abstract: An improved connector for attaching a mother board to a daughter board, having a slotted housing, a slotted elastomeric member, and a flexible circuit with numerous conductors. The flexible circuit is wrapped around the elastomeric member with its two free ends ending at the slot of the elastomeric member. The wrapped elastomeric member is located in a chamber in the housing with the slot in the housing communicating with the slot in the elastomeric member so that when the daughter board is inserted into the housing, it engages the free ends of the flexible circuit within the slot of the elastomeric member. The elastomeric member has two semi-cylindrical portions which are separated by a channel at the bottom thereof. The elastomeric member with these semi-cylindrical portions is slightly larger than the chamber of the housing when mounted by fasteners to the mother board.

  • Patent number: 4815991
Abstract: A device for making electrical connection in which the device can serve either as a clip or a plug. The device includes a pair of pivotally interconnected jaws which can open and be clipped onto a wire or electrical terminal, the jaws being biased toward each other. In one embodiment, each jaw is provided near its outer surface with an electrically conductive member defined by one or more resilient electrical contact elements which extend longitudinally of the corresponding jaw. The elements of each member are integral with a pair of semi-circular bands which are secured in any suitable manner, such as by soldering or spot welding, to the outer surface of the respective jaw. When the jaws are closed, the members mate with each other at the side edges to form a banana plug which can be inserted into a jack or other tubular recess. In another embodiment, the jaws have integral contact elements thereon which define a banana plug configuration when the jaws are closed.

  • Patent number: 4810199
Abstract: An improved electrical plug household use to protect household occupants from electrical shocks while inserting or removing the plug from an electrical receptacle. The plug, in general, is a standard household electrical plug with or without a ground prong. The improvement of the present invention is to mount an elastically collapsible electrically insulating hood on the plug surrounding the prongs so that when the improved plug is inserted more than half way into the household electrical receptacle, the extent of the prongs not yet within the receptacle is surrounded by the hood and inaccessible to contact by household occupants, especially children. The hood can be a plastic bellows integrally molded with the body of the plug or the hood can be formed separatly and glued to the body of the plug. The hood can also be a foamed polymer tube section glued to the body of the plug.
