  • Patent number: 8812594
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for synchronizing electronic poll book voter databases. The system includes a plurality of electronic poll books in communication over a network, each poll book having a unique identifier and each including a voter database of voter information. Each poll book is operable to transmit its unique identifier in an information packet and receive information packets from other poll books. Each poll book arranges the transmitted and received unique identifiers in order according to a predetermined ordering scheme, and establishes communication with two other poll books and exchanges voter database information to ensure all databases have updated information. With the communication established as described, the poll books form a ring network and database information is propagated from poll book to poll book to synchronize the databases between all of the poll books.

  • Patent number: 8793367
Abstract: Conventionally, when a communication unit needed to apply an authentication process to other communication units, a problem arose in that the communication unit could not be quickly connected to a communication unit near a user and to which the user wishes the communication unit to connect. In this invention, a station measures a range to other communication units in the surrounding area and possesses a trigger, which is initiated by a user, for beginning an authentication process; when initiated, the station selects the nearest communication unit based on the result of the measurement and applies the authentication process to it.

  • Patent number: 8782158
Abstract: Methods and systems are used to share data as authorized by a provider for review by a recipient. As the recipient reviews information, information relating to the amount reviewed is tracked, and the provider is notified of whether or not the recipient has accessed the shared information and/or the extent to which the shared information was reviewed. The shared information may, in some contexts, be video data. Video may be captured and automatically uploaded to a network-accessible location. The uploaded video may then be shared with a recipient. As the recipient reviews the uploaded video, the amount viewed by the recipient can be tracked, and the provider notified of the amount viewed.

  • Patent number: 8769156
Abstract: The present disclosure presents systems and methods for maintaining original source and destination IP addresses of a request while performing intermediary cache redirection. An intermediary receives a request from a client destined to a server identifying a client IP address as a source IP address and a server IP address as a destination IP address. The intermediary transmits the request to a cache server, the request maintaining original IP addresses and identifying a MAC address of the cache server as the destination MAC address. The intermediary receives the request from the cache server responsive to a cache miss, the received request maintaining the original source and destination IP addresses. The intermediary identifying that the third request is coming from the cache server via one or more data link layer properties of the third transport layer connection.

  • Patent number: 8769134
Abstract: A cloud computing platform contains a structured storage subsystem the provides scalable queues. The cloud computing platform monitors message throughput for the scalable queues and automatically increases or decreases subqueues that provide the operational functionality for each scalable queue. A visibility start time and cloud computing platform time are maintained for each message to provide an approximate first-in-first-out order for messages within each subqueue. A message in a subqueue may be available for processing when the current cloud computing time is greater than the visibility start of the message.

  • Patent number: 8755053
Abstract: Dimensions of a surface feature are determined by capturing an image of the surface feature and determining a scale associated with the image. Structured light may be projected onto the surface, such that the position of structured light in the captured image allows determination of scale. A non-planar surface may be unwrapped. The surface may alternatively be projected into a plane to correct for the scene being tilted with respect to the camera axis. A border of the surface feature may be input manually by a user. An apparatus and system for implementing the method are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8694658
Abstract: A method is provided in one example implementation and the method includes receiving a query for a policy (e.g., a multi-media session) that pertains to a selected one of first and second endpoints. Each endpoint interfaces with their respective session initiation protocol entity, which interacts with a session border controller (SBC). The method further includes negotiating credentials via a policy element and a selected SBC and determining, via a selected policy within the policy element, whether a requested communication session is prohibited or conducted between the endpoints. In more specific embodiments, each SBC makes a mapping between signaling entity information and pre-configured SBC virtual private network (VPN) information used for dynamic configuration of the communication session, and wherein a SIP [or other communication protocol] adjacency configuration is created, where adjacency characteristics are defined for each enterprise in which the endpoints reside.
