Abstract: Orthopedic and dental implants coated with an antibacterial coating and methods of making and using, are described herein. The implant can be coated with a hydrophobic, polycationic antibacterial polymer. The polymer can be covalently or non-covalently associated with the surface; however, in particular embodiments, the polymer is non-covalently associated with the surface. As shown in the examples below, clinical observations, digital radiography, and a battery of well-accepted ex vivo analytical methods show that the presence of a hydrophobic polycationic polymer coating, such as N,N-dodecyl,methyl-PEI coating on the surface of a metal implant, was effective in eliminating the clinical signs of infection in vivo in a large animal infection model. Moreover, the coated plates supported bone healing, and in fact decreased healing times, even in the presence of significant bacterial contamination compared to a control.

Abstract: The invention concerns specifically emulsion polymers which are intraparticulately crosslinked via a hetero-Diels-Alder (HDA) mechanism. The crosslinked polymers can then be wholly or partly decrosslinked by thermal processing, for example in the form of a composite matrix, via a retro-Diels-Alder or retro-hetero-Diels-Alder reaction and interparticulately recrosslinked on cooling. This makes it possible to prepare long shelf life prepregs for composites. But it is also possible to thus realize other materials that have thermoset properties at use temperature but thermoplastic processing properties at a higher temperature.

Abstract: A polyolefin microporous membrane is disclosed. The membrane has a width of not less than 100 mm, and a variation range of an F25 value in a width direction is not greater than 1 MPa. The F25 value is a value obtained by dividing a load at 25% elongation of a sample of the laminated polyolefin microporous membrane as measured with a tensile testing machine by a cross-sectional area of the sample.

Abstract: A self-adaptive cement formulation includes cement, water and thermoplastic block-polymer particles. The set cement demonstrates self-healing properties when exposed to methane, and is particularly suited for well-cementing applications. After placement and curing, the self healing properties help maintain zonal isolation should bonding be disrupted between the set cement and the formation or a casing string, should cracks or defects appear in the set-cement matrix, or both.
