  • Patent number: 4394807
Abstract: A one-piece rollformed sheet metal structural shape for use in building construction, the shape being a generally triangular closed shape having mounting flanges extending outwardly at the bottom of the triangular shape and stiffening flanges extending outwardly from the opposite end of the shape, the stiffening flanges having a projection extending from the outer extremity of at least one of the stiffening flange(s) for increased stiffness. The stiffening projections may turn over or turn under or overlap the stiffening flanges for increased stiffness, prevention of moisture entering the interior of the shape, and securement of the stiffening flanges to each other providing greater strength to the shape.

  • Patent number: 4393915
Abstract: There is disclosed a device for attachment to a free margin of flexible webbing material, as for example, a map, wherein the device comprises an elongated mounting strip to which the free margin of flexible webbing material may be affixed and a rigid elongated substantially hollow holder element having an open end, an outer wall, and a longitudinal slot within the outer wall having a width approximating the thickness of the webbing material. The outer wall is continuous in cross-section circumferentially from one edge of the slot to the other edge of the slot. The holder element further includes elongated rib means within the holder element extending substantially the entire length thereof. The rib means defines an aperture communicating with the slot and is shaped to accommodate the mounting strip lengthwise through the open end with the webbing material extending through the slot.

  • Patent number: 4391076
Abstract: Generally rectangular wood shake covering elements laid up in overlapping courses are spaced apart transversely of their lengths by sawn wood shingle filler elements. Preferably the major portion of the overlapped portion of each course is formed by the tips of the sawn shingle filler elements, whereas the major portion of the exposed portion of each course is formed by the wood shake covering elements. One of such elements can be notched providing a transversely extending shoulder dividing such element into tip and butt portions of unequal width. In application, the shoulder tightly abuts the adjacent element. The covering and filler elements can be used to construct a roofing panel which includes a sawn shingle underlayer beneath each course and waterproof paper which underlies at least the major portion of the shingle underlayer but which is secured to the roofing panel by having one end portion interposed between the underlayer and the covering or filler element at one end of the panel.

  • Patent number: 4390055
Abstract: A drapery support system includes a conventional rod adapted to slidably support a plurality of carriers. Each carrier has an upper section that engages the rod and a downwardly depending section taking the form of a U-shaped plate with the outer section of its bight secured to the upper section so that the two plate-like arms project downwardly. The arms extend parallel to one another and normally to the axis of the rod and are spaced along the axis of the rod. Holes formed through the two arms act as female sections of a snap fastener to receive a pair of male snap fasteners secured at spaced points along a tape joined to the upper edge of the drape. The spacing between a pair of male snap fasteners on the tape exceeds the distance between the two arms of the carrier so that the drape section between the fasteners extend freely in a drape-like roll.

The skylight panel assembly includes roof and ceiling light transmitting sections which may be installed in place of and between modular roof panels. The inner ceiling skylight panel is securely mounted to the adjacent ceiling panels by a pair of flexible mounting clips complementally formed relative to elongated ceiling support strips secured to the adjacent ceiling panels. The support strips are formed with a plurality of serrations along one inner face. Each mounting clip is likewise formed with a plurality of mating ridges. A first of the mounting strips is secured on one side of the skylight panel opening with the serrations exposed for mating with a mounting clip. A second of the mounting strips is secured on an opposite side of the skylight opening with the serrations secured against the adjacent ceiling panel.

  • Patent number: 4388961
Abstract: A strip-type door having a plurality of individual strips arranged in overlapped relationship one to another comprises a series of swingable supports on which the individual strips are vertically suspended when the latter take a vertical position. A mounting element connected to a lintel over the door opening has a mounting portion, a supporting bar and an arcuate wall defining an arcuate channel. Each of the supports is formed with a curved portion insertable into the channel in the mounting element to form with this wall a hinge about which the supports carrying the individual strips can swing relative to the mounting element between a plurality of positions. The curved end portion may be inserted into said channel in only one of these positions so that the inadvertent falling or removal of the supports out of the channel when the strips are in their working swingable positions is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4386645
Abstract: A closure includes a plurality of vertical panels suspended from an overhead support and successively joined to one another by interlocking, alternate outer and inner pivot elements attached to the panel lateral edges. When the closure is collapsed the panels are folded about the pivot elements into a stacked, parallel diposition. Improved articulation between the panels is achieved by means of unique outer and inner pivot element components including respectively, a curved groove and a curved arm, both describing an arc of approximately 270.degree.. Female elements on the base of each pivot element cooperate with mating male elements joined to each panel lateral edge to allow ready assembly therebetween, with the panels themselves comprising either metal and/or a plastic composition.

  • Patent number: 4386646
Abstract: A folding door having panels pivoted about vertical axes, top and bottom pivot assemblies, the bottom assembly comprising a bracket mountable beneath the door. The bracket defines a track along which a pivot block is guided. A sleeve is mounted in a vertical opening of the door and a pivot pin threaded into the sleeve, which pin is vertically adjustable relative to the door. The block has a vertical opening therein and the pivot pin has a lower end thereof extending therethrough. The pin and block have vertical teeth which are engaged when the pin is moved relatively downward onto said block and are disengaged when the pin is moved relatively upwardly. The pivot block and the bracket have vertically engageable teeth such that when the block is moved downwardly onto the bracket, the teeth are engaged, and when moved upwardly, the teeth are disengaged.

  • Patent number: 4384606
Abstract: An environmental curtain constructed of flexible, transparent plastic strips suspended in an opening to function as a thermal barrier. The plastic strips are arranged in a partially overlapping relationship. Each strip is defined with one end having each corner cut out to an extent for producing a central solid portion. The solid central portion of the strip may be provided with a row of spaced apertures arranged adjacent one end of the strip. An inner row of spaced apertures are arranged in vertical alignment with the outer row to permit a temporary suspension loop for the strip to be defined when the inner and outer rows of apertures are aligned in overlying relationship and secured together. The strips may include side flaps adjacent the central loop that extends below the strip suspension means and allow the relative position of the adjacent strips to be changed while still suspended by the suspension means.

  • Patent number: 4384497
Abstract: An adjustable handlebar system includes handlebar means to provide handle grips for a vehicle that are adapted for movement with respect to the vehicle. At least a pair of unidirectional clutch means control movement of the handlebar means. Each clutch means is engaged with the handlebar means and is connected to a part of the vehicle. The handlebar means and clutch means are interconnected to prevent movement in two opposite directions and to hold the handle grips immovable in the absence of operation of the clutches. One clutch means is operated to permit infinitely variable movement of the handle grips in one direction and the other clutch means is operated to permit infinitely variable movement of the handlebar means in the other direction.

  • Patent number: 4381812
Abstract: End structure for an elongated traverse rod having side-by-side parallel channels, one thereof opening downwardly and the other opening sidewardly. An elongated flexible element in one of the channels effects movement of a master carrier along the rod. The end structure has a pulley housing which is securable to the traverse rod by guide structure and has plural, downwardly opening compartments. A pair of pulleys are rotatably mounted on a first shaft and respectively within two of said compartments, such pulleys being engaged by the elongated flexible element. A second shaft is rotatably supported on the pulley housing and extends parallel within the other channel of said traverse rod. A drive pulley is secured to an end of the second shaft and is disposed in one of said compartments. Manually operable pulls engage the drive pulley for effecting rotation thereof.
