A method is provided for wireless communications. The method generally includes determining one or more blocks of data in a current packet matching one or more blocks of data in one or more portions of one or more previous packets stored in a memory, compressing at least a portion of the current packet based on an enhanced compression format having reduced metadata relative to another compression format to indicate one or more of the matching blocks of data, and transmitting the compressed current packet. A method in the base station includes: performing a CCA detection on the unlicensed carrier to determine energy on the unlicensed carrier and, at the same time, initiating an HARQ discarding timer for the unlicensed carrier, when the base station and a UE operate on the unlicensed carrier; comparing the determined energy with a predetermined CCA threshold; if the determined energy on the unlicensed carrier is not smaller than the CCA threshold until the HARQ discarding timer is expired, giving up the HARQ retransmission on the unlicensed carrier; and if the energy is detected to be smaller than the CCA threshold before the HARQ discarding timer is expired, continuing the HARQ retransmission on the unlicensed carrier.

    Abstract: It is possible to reduce the implementation complexity associated with dynamic carrier configuration by defining overlapping sets of candidate numerologies for at least some carriers in the network. A common numerology is included in sets of candidate numerologies pre-associated with two different carriers. This reduces the amount of numerologies that need to be supported by the corresponding user equipments (UEs) and base stations, which in turn reduces the complexity of those devices, e.g., less complex hardware, protocol stacks, and software, lower storage and processing requirements, etc. The common numerology specifies a common subset of physical layer parameters for both carriers. In one example, the common numerology specifies the same sub-carrier frequency spacing and symbol duration for both carriers. The common numerology may further specify the same cyclic prefix (CP) length for symbols communicated over both carriers.
