Patent number: 4455688Abstract: Welder's protective goggles particularly adapted for operators who must use corrective bifocal lenses in their work. The goggles comprise a generally tubular shaped member, having an open end contoured to fit snugly against the face about the eyes of the wearer. The axis of the open end of the tubular member is on approximately the same horizontal plane as the axes of the eyes of the wearer when looking straight ahead. The tubular member also has a closed viewing end which has at least one viewing aperture adapted to receive a safety lens. The axis of the closed viewing end intersects the axis of the open end at an angle from below it. The degree of the included angle formed by the intersecting axes is predetermined so that the tilt thus given to the closed viewing end in relation to the open end is such that the wearer of the goggles when using corrective bifocal lenses underneath them will have an unobstructed view when looking through either corrective section of the bifocal lenses.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1981Date of Patent: June 26, 1984Inventor: Boyd L. Patent number: 4453477Abstract: A sewing machine, or similar machine which consumes thread at a work station, has combined with it a thread color device located between the work station and a thread supply. The color device causes the thread issuing from it to have any one of a number of available colors, allowing stitches of different color to be made at the work station without changing the thread or rethreading the needle. The timing of a change in thread color at the color device with respect to the schedule of work performed at the work station, and the movement of the thread from the color device to the work station, are controlled so that a change in thread color occurs at the work station at substantially the same time as such change is desired in the work schedule performed at that station.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1981Date of Patent: June 12, 1984Assignee: Gerber Scientific, Inc.Inventor: Heinz J. Patent number: 4449255Abstract: A unitary transparent eyepiece has a planar outer rim and a planar inner viewing zone, the plane of the inner viewing zone being inclined at an angle to the plane of the outer rim.The angle between the, preferably circular, inner viewing zone and the, preferably circular, outer rim of the eyepiece is chosed such that when the planar outer rim is fitted into the planar socket of a face-piece in a protective device, the inner viewing zone is orthogonal to the line of forward vision of the wearer. In this way the face piece conforms to the shape of the wearer's head, an efficient planar and circular seal is obtained between the eyepiece and its socket, and optical aberrations (associated with curved eyepieces) are minimized. The position of the inner viewing zone relative to the outer rim may be varied according to the clearance required between the eyepiece and the wearer's eye and the type of face piece employed.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1981Date of Patent: May 22, 1984Assignee: The Secretary of State for Defence in Her Britannic Majesty's Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern IrelandInventor: Frederick H.
