  • Patent number: 8265323
Abstract: An earphone or a removable component for use with an earphone are disclosed. As an example, the removable component can be a cap, filter or cover. According to one aspect, a headphone can provide improved approaches to substantially prevent foreign matter from hindering performance. However, when foreign matter has nevertheless accumulated, a user of the headphone can themselves clean the accumulated foreign matter without any tools or professional assistance. In one embodiment, a cover or filter is position and removably secured proximate to an entry to an acoustic channel of the headphone so that the foreign matter can be substantially blocked from ever entering the acoustic channel. In one embodiment, the cover or filter can be provided as part of a removable structure, e.g., cap, so that the cover or filter can be cleaned, replaced or otherwise serviced.

  • Patent number: 8233654
Abstract: Various methods and apparatus for processing audio signals are disclosed herein. The assembly may be attached, adhered, or otherwise embedded into or upon a removable oral appliance to form a hearing aid assembly. Such an oral appliance may be a custom-made device which can enhance and/or optimize received audio signals for vibrational conduction to the user. Received audio signals may be processed to cancel acoustic echo such that undesired sounds received by one or more intra-buccal and/or extra-buccal microphones are eliminated or mitigated. Additionally, a multiband actuation system may be used where two or more transducers each deliver sounds within certain frequencies. Also, the assembly may also utilize the sensation of directionality via the conducted vibrations to emulate directional perception of audio signals received by the user. Another feature may include the ability to vibrationally conduct ancillary audio signals to the user along with primary audio signals.

  • Patent number: 8233649
Abstract: With a hearing aid device which can be worn in the ear, a barometric pressure equalization which is needed for the sound transducer, such as a microphone or receiver, is to be achieved in a simple and cost-effective fashion. To this end, a converter protection facility is proposed with a membrane, with a pressure equalization channel, which connects a sound channel to the interior of the hearing aid device, extends through the transducer protection facility at least in one section. Replacing the transducer protection facility thus also replaces this subsection of the pressure equalization channel. A possible blockage of the pressure equalization channel which exists in this region as a result of dirt or moisture is eliminated as a result.

  • Patent number: 8218740
Abstract: A signaling node within a telecommunications network automatically detects that a signaling link is fluctuating in and out of service and provides hysteresis to the fluctuating signaling link. The signaling node includes a link controller that monitors the state(s) of the signaling link over a time period and a link blocking module that blocks the signaling link from carrying SS7 traffic when the signaling link fluctuates between a failed state and a stable state over the time period.

  • Patent number: 8213626
Abstract: The size of measuring boxes for hearing apparatuses and in particular for hearing devices is to be reduced, with the efficiency of the measuring box in respect of attenuating interference noises being maintained or improved. A measuring box is thus proposed, which comprises an interference signal recording facility for recording an interference signal. Furthermore, provision is made in the measuring box for a signal generating facility to generate a compensation signal which is phase-opposed to the recorded interference signal, so that the interference signal can be compensated for by the compensation signal. The interference noise attenuation is thus achieved here by an electronic active part, so that the quality demands on the measurement space can be reduced and its size thereby decreased as well.

  • Patent number: 8199894
Abstract: The present invention advantageously provides a method and system that combines arming and disarming of a security system with activation and deactivation of call forwarding, enabling a single input by an authorized user to alter the state of the security system and to activate or deactivate call forwarding. Further, when changing the state of the security system, a user authorization component determines whether call forwarding should be activated. Hence, forwarding of calls is based on both user criteria and the state of the system. Additionally, the state of call forwarding can be changed by an authorized user via the security system.

  • Patent number: 8189832
Abstract: With the date transmission in a hearing device system, overloads are to be avoided and the energy consumption during transmission is to be kept as low as possible. To this end, a transmission method and a corresponding system for the inductive transmission is proposed, in which the receiver returns an item of quality information relating to the received signal back to the transmitter. The transmission power of the transmitter is then dynamically varied as a function of the item of quality information. With unidirectional transmission, the transmitter can obtain an item of distance information relating to the distance of the receiver from the transmitter and thereupon adjust the transmission power accordingly.

  • Patent number: 8189833
Abstract: A hearing aid comprises two microphones, directional processing means for combining the respective audio signals to form a spatial signal, a beamformer for controlling the directional processing means to provide adaptation of the spatial signal, and means for boosting low frequencies of the spatial signal. A feedback estimator generates a feedback compensation signal, which is combined with the boosted spatial signal. By applying feedback compensation only after directional processing and low frequency boosting, the device avoids interference by the feedback estimator with the function of the beamformer. The invention also provides a method of processing signals in a hearing aid.
