  • Patent number: 4063774
Abstract: A convertible roof for a station wagon that has a hatch adapted to form part of the roof for sliding movement in a substantially horizontal plane between an open and closed position relative to the stationary roof portion thereof. Mounting means provides sliding engagement for the hatch relative to the stationary roof between the closed position in which the hatch extends outwardly from the stationary roof to cover the opening extending through the convertible roof to the open position in which the hatch is contained within a recess in the stationary roof. Handle means is connected to and extends outwardly from the hatch to be gripped by the user to facilitate sliding movement of the hatch between the closed and open positions, and a roof rack is mounted between the stationary roof portion and the hatch and adapted to be movable between extended and retracted positions in conjunction with the movement of the hatch.

  • Patent number: 4061361
Abstract: A suspension for a vehicle having wheel-supporting axles arranged in tandem. The suspension comprises a walking beam pivoted intermediate its ends to the frame of the vehicle. The axle support of one road engaging wheel is secured to one end of the walking beam, and the axle support of the other road engaging wheel is secured to a support arm which is mounted for pivotal movement relative to the walking beam. An air bag is interposed between the support arm and the opposite end of the walking beam. The walking beam provides for equalizing movement between the tandem axles and a cushioning member, such as an air bag and the like absorbs road shock during such equalizing movement.

  • Patent number: 4060272
Abstract: A weatherstrip is used in a motor vehicle body structure including a roof rail defining an upper side of a window opening and a vehicle door having a window pane movable between raised and lowered position relative to the window opening. The weatherstrip comprises an elongated hollow resiliently deformable member extending along the roof rail. The resiliently deformable member includes an upper mounting portion secured to the roof rail, an inboard lip portion, an outboard lip portion, a bridge portion interconnecting the inboard and outboard lip portions and restraining means disposed within the hollow. The restraining means acts on the upper mounting portion and the bridge portion to prevent the window pane from moving in one direction substantially normal to the plane of the window opening. The restraining means may take the form of a bank formed integral with the upper mounting portion, but separate from the bridge portion.

  • Patent number: 4058325
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a suspension stabilizer mens for elevatable tandem axle trailers wherein the tandem axle wheels are mounted on adjacent bell crank arms and allow the body of the trailer to be moved up and down with forward and rearward force applied to the trailer hitch. The disclosure relates to stabilizer means in the form of an equalizer lever and linkage means coupled between bell crank wheel mounting axles such as to couple the tandem wheels for unitary bell crank pivotal movement to raise and lower the trailer body by means of tension rods coupled to the trailer hitch and wherein the equalizer mechanism of the invention tends to force the wheels of one tandem axle system downwardly when another is deflected upwardly thereby equalizing or leveling the body and its load automatically as the individual wheels of the individual tendem axle systems step over bumps during the movement of the trailer along a roadway or the like.
