  • Patent number: 5934159
Abstract: The present invention is an opener for a package closure. The opener is designed to work with a push tab that has a depressable end which may pierce the package. The opener has a handle and a protrusion. The protrusion may be attached to the handle, or the protrusion may be attached to an angled portion which is attached to the handle. The protrusion is adapted to be positioned on the depressable end of the push tab. The opener may also include a prong which is adapted to fit in an air vent of the push tab. The prong may be attached to the handle, or the prong may be attached to an angled portion which is attached to the handle. The protrusion is spaced from the prong so that it is positioned on the depressable end of the push tab when the prong is positioned in the air vent. When the protrusion is positioned on the depressable end of the push tab, the user may apply sufficient downward force to the handle of the opener in order to cause the depressable end of the push tab to pierce and open the package.

  • Patent number: 5933893
Abstract: A multi-purpose tool housing is provided having an implement that is rotatably stowable in an individual housing opening. The opening includes a separate lock plate that engages the end surfaces of a pivot plate that extends from an inner end portion of the implement. The end surfaces are angularly oriented to permit the lock plate to not only secure the implement in a storage mode, but also secure the implement in predetermined angular orientations for convenience of use. A spring biased plunger, flexible bands and spring members operate between the housing and implement to automatically move a portion of the implement out of the housing opening to a predetermined access orientation. Thereafter, a user may readily grasp the implement and rotate it to the desired use position. When scissors are being used with a flex strip between the scissors handles, a bumper part coacts with the lock plate to hold the handles together for storage against the flexural bias of the flex strip.

  • Patent number: 5933894
Abstract: A combination tool includes many useful features for a carpenter. A nail-starting head of the tool includes differently sized nail starting, through holes. In operation, a nail is inserted into one of the through holes and frictional engaged thereby. The carpenter starts the nail into a piece of building material, and then pulls on a handle of the tool to free the tool from the nail. The nail is then driven into the building material. The tool also includes a graduated straight edge along the handle and a T-square formed between the handle and the head. The handle is approximately sixteen inches long and the graduation markings assist the carpenter in finding a next adjacent wallboard stud, once a first wallboard stud is located.

  • Patent number: 5931718
Abstract: A methodology for finishing of HIP'ed Si.sub.3 N.sub.4 balls from the as-received condition by magnetic fluid polishing. It involves mechanical removal of material initially using harder abrasives with respect to the work material (of different materials of progressively lower hardnesses and finer grain sizes) followed by final chemo-mechanical polishing (CMP) using preferably a softer abrasive for obtaining superior finish with minimal surface or subsurface defects, such as scratches, microcracks, or pits on the Si.sub.3 N.sub.4 balls. High material removal rates (1 .mu.m/min) with minimal subsurface damage is obtained with harder abrasives, such as B.sub.4 C or SiC (relative to Si.sub.3 N.sub.4) due to the use of a flexible support system, small polishing loads (1N/ball), and fine abrasives but high polishing speeds (compared to conventional polishing) by rapid accumulation of minute amounts of material removed by microfracture. Final polishing of the Si.sub.3 N.sub.

  • Patent number: 5921847
Abstract: A swing grinding fixture and process for using the same is disclosed that enables a conventional surface grinder to remanufacture a machine tool cutting insert by grinding a predetermined shape into the insert. A quick clamping insert holder coupled to a slide secures the tool insert in the fixture. A precision spindle cartridge is mounted in a rigid fixture body and coupled to the slide to provide the swing motion required to generate the radius to be ground. The rigid fixture body includes a pair of micrometer adjustable stops which limit the arc through which the slide may be swung and control the flank shape ground into the insert. In an alternative embodiment, a sine plate is attached to the fixture body and is used to incline the fixture to a predetermined insert rake angle. In operation, the grinding fixture is securely mounted to the table of a surface grinder and a cutting tool insert is secured in the insert holder.
