  • Patent number: 7478145
Abstract: The invention relates to a system and method called autotopology of a network or advertising based network management which enables the analysis and automatic graphical and hierarchical representation of any hierarchical or flat network topology, especially a switched Ethernet (SE). The autotopology can be used for self-configured networks (for example by using zeroconf) and for any otherwise configured networks, especially using DHCP or manually configured networks. The use of zeroconf is called autoconfiguration. Autoconfiguration and autotopology enable a comfortable and safe administration of a network. Administration of a self-configured network using the autotopology data proceeds in a separate and low-priority sub-network (link local) so that the productive operation of the network remains undisturbed. The topology of the network is used as a clear possibility of administering a network. Administration of the network is possible immediately after determination of the topology.

  • Patent number: 7412517
Abstract: A method for allocating a shared wireless bandwidth in a packet-centric wireless point to multi-point telecommunications system. The method includes allocating the shared bandwidth between a wireless base station and one or more subscriber customer premises equipment (CPE) stations. The method can include dynamically allocating the shared bandwidth. The method can include allocating the shared bandwidth on a frame basis, such as (1) allocating the frame of the shared bandwidth in an uplink direction from a subscriber CPE station to the wireless base station; or (2) allocating the frame of the shared bandwidth in a downlink direction from the wireless base station to a subscriber CPE station.

  • Patent number: 7409442
Abstract: A method for communicating control messages between a first device and a second device. The method includes a communication module that directs control messages between a first device and a second device through an intermediate device. The intermediate device is coupled to the first device by a control path and to the second device by a data path. The method also includes a translation module and a transmission module that cooperate to translate control messages received over the control path at the intermediate device to transport data messages and transport data messages received over the data path at the second device to control messages. Transport data messages are sent over the data path to the second device and control messages from the second device are sent over the control path to the first device.

  • Patent number: 7398290
Abstract: A device retrieval system in a network system including a plurality of devices each having at least one attribute. The retrieval system includes: a plurality of device registration units, a device retrieval unit and an identity judgment unit. The device registration unit registers at least a part of the devices and attributes thereof while associating the devices with the attributes respectively. The device retrieval unit retrieves devices and attributes thereof from the devices and the attributes registered in the device registration units. The identity judgment unit judges identity as to whether a device retrieved from one of the device registration units is identical to a device retrieved from one of the others of the device registration units, based on common points of attributes of the retrieved devices.

  • Patent number: 7386604
Abstract: A signaling method for use in a communication network, in particular a unified network, for supporting a communication along a communication path (12) via a plurality of in-path network infrastructure elements (6, 8, 10) of the network. A service element (26, 28) of the network which is located off the communication path triggers an in-path network infrastructure element (6) and the triggered in-path network infrastructure element initiates in-path signaling along the communication path. In particular, the service element may send a message to a terminating end point of the communication, which message is intercepted by the network infrastructure element (6) closest to the terminating end point, which closest network infrastructure element initiates the in-path signaling.

  • Patent number: 7376716
Abstract: A tiered distribution service is provided in a content delivery network (CDN) having a set of surrogate origin (namely, “edge”) servers organized into regions and that provide content delivery on behalf of participating content providers, wherein a given content provider operates an origin server. According to the invention, a cache hierarchy is established in the CDN comprising a given edge server region and either (a) a single parent region, or (b) a subset of the edge server regions. In response to a determination that a given object request cannot be serviced in the given edge region, instead of contacting the origin server, the request is provided to either the single parent region or to a given one of the subset of edge server regions for handling, preferably as a function of metadata associated with the given object request. The given object request is then serviced, if possible, by a given CDN server in either the single parent region or the given subset region.

  • Patent number: 7373388
Abstract: In a computer system, peripheral computers with business applications send alert messages to a central computer when a current variable exceeds a reference value. The central computer implements an alert server to notify a target group of multiple users via communication devices. The central computer escalates further notification to a supervisor user in the event that during a predetermined time period no user of the group has confirmed reception. The notifications have predefined fixed and variable text portion that relate to the alert type. The group of users to be notified is determined by subscription or by a role-to-application assignment.

  • Patent number: 7359979
Abstract: The present invention is directed to voice communication devices in which an audio stream is divided into a sequence of individual packets, each of which is routed via pathways that can vary depending on the availability of network resources. All embodiments of the invention rely on an acoustic prioritization agent that assigns a priority value to the packets. The priority value is based on factors such as whether the packet contains voice activity and the degree of acoustic similarity between this packet and adjacent packets in the sequence. A confidence level, associated with the priority value, may also be assigned. In one embodiment, network congestion is reduced by deliberately failing to transmit packets that are judged to be acoustically similar to adjacent packets; the expectation is that, under these circumstances, traditional packet loss concealment algorithms in the receiving device will construct an acceptably accurate replica of the missing packet.

  • Patent number: 7340502
Abstract: In a peer-to-peer collaboration system, deltas containing data change commands are organized in a persistent data structure called a delta log. The delta log is organized into blocks, which are the largest division in the delta log. In turn, blocks contain groups, groups contain chains and chains contain deltas. Delta blocks are used to implement priority deltas that are used to limit the collection of data change commands that must be transferred. Within a block the deltas are organized by groups, each of which is a set of deltas organized into chains. The delta group in used to determine which deltas to purge. The chains are ordered by increasing creator ID of the endpoint that created the chain. Organizing the delta log in this fashion allows the log to be “walked” to detect convergence problems. To achieve causality-preservation, each delta has a list of dependencies representing other deltas that must be executed before the current delta can be executed.

  • Patent number: 7337229
Abstract: Method and apparatus for authorizing Internet transactions using the public land mobile network (PLMN). An association, or linking, of a mobile terminal to a transaction being made with a more traditional Internet access device such as a PC is provided using the resources of the public land mobile network (PLMN). The mobile terminal can in turn be used to provide authentication and/or authorization for the transaction. The link or coupling between the transaction documents or information sets presented on the two devices can be created by a service provider or merchant sending a WAP push message to the mobile terminal. Authentication and/or authorization can be provided using the client-side PKI capabilities of the wireless terminal, using a user ID and/or password, or through other means.

Abstract: Methods, computer systems, and computer readable media provide for automated control of the status of network address space. Blocks of networking address space assigned to a network may be allocated from a free status to a new status based upon a request to allocate a particular size block. Blocks of networking address space assigned to a network that have been allocated to a new status may be deallocated to return to a free status based upon a request to deallocate the chosen block. Blocks of networking address space assigned to a network that have been allocated and otherwise manipulated such as through a lend from another network may be reclaimed for the original network upon a request to reclaim the chosen block.

  • Patent number: 7330901
Abstract: A mutual recognition process is performed in step S1. When it is determined in step S2 that a request for sending a list of musical pieces has been received, the list of musical pieces is sent in step S3. When a request for sending audio data has been received in step S4, a transfer-rate measurement process is executed in step S5. When it is determined according to the transfer rate in step S6 that the audio can be transmitted, the corresponding compressed audio data is extracted in step S7, the compressed audio data is decoded to generate linear PCM data suited to the transfer rate in step S8, and transmitted in step S9. When the audio data cannot be transmitted, an error message is transmitted in step S10. The present invention can be applied, for example, to a server for distributing audio data and an audio player terminal for reproducing the distributed audio data.
