  • Patent number: 5499475
Abstract: A door seal has a base portion comprising straight sections joined at their ends to form corner joints with another section, at least four first seal sections each of which are disposed at a respective one of the corner joints, and a plurality of second seal portions each having a length that extends between a spaced pair of the first seal sections. The first seal sections comprise a pair of spaced lip seals, whereas the second seal sections comprise a lip seal and a compression seal. The seal avoids the problem of undesirable compression seal distortion at the corners joints.

  • Patent number: 5497578
Abstract: A cross-arm window regulator for moving a window between raised, intermediate and lowered positions in a vehicle door, includes a resilient stop cushion housed in the lift channel mounted on the glass. Sliders mounted on the ends of the lift and cross arms engage the ends of the cushion as the window nears raised position, gradually compressing it to cushion window movement to raised position. If the geometry is the same for raised and lowered positions, the same cushioning will also occur in the window lowered position. The spring rate increases as compression occurs. The cushion can be a foam butyl rubber strip or a metal spring of various types. The spring rate can be tailored by making the cushion a dual density foam strip, a foam strip with holes of varying sizes to provide a variable cross-section, or a coated foam strip. An integral stop can be included in the form of a hard plastic shell for the foam strip or spring.

  • Patent number: 5496081
Abstract: A door security device includes an elongate support bar, attachment mechanism mounted to the support bar, opposing blocking members attached to opposing ends of the support bar, and an actuation mechanism. In one embodiment, the attachment mechanism includes a pair of generally J-shaped hooks which engage a portion of a door. The blocking members include a surface thereon which rests flush against the door frame. The actuation mechanism includes a handle assembly which is pivotally connected to the hooks. The handle assembly includes a camming surface thereon which contacts the support bar. The security device is actuated by positioning the hooks about the door and positioning the blocking members flush against the door frame. The handle is then pivoted, causing the camming surface to pivot about the support bar and pull the hooks away from the door and towards the support bar.

  • Patent number: 5488804
Abstract: A device for protecting a hung door and the adjacent trim and wallboard from damage during construction. The device has a channel having an closed end and a open end and a plurality of upstanding sidewalls therebetween. The open end and the closed end and the upstanding sidewalls form an engagement slot that releasably grips a vertical edge of the door. Each upstanding wall is fabricated from a resilient material that contacts an exterior surface of the door without damaging the door in releasable communication. A bumper is disposed on an outer surface of the channel for resiliently contacting the adjacent wallboard and trim and rebounding away after contact. Finally, a wedge is gluably adhered to an outer surface of the closed end of the channel and urges closed communication between the door and an upstanding jamb member adjacent the door.

  • Patent number: 5487238
Abstract: In a device for opening and closing a window, a casement is moved between a closed and open position with respect to a stationary frame. This is done by a longitudinally displaceable toothed rack, which transfers the longitudinal movement into a movement of the casement by a hinge rod. In order to obtain a device which is easy to operate, it is proposed that in addition to the first toothed rack co-operating with the casement, a second toothed rack is provided in the frame which changes closing elements located on the frame between a latched position holding the casement and an unlatched position releasing the casement, by a closing rod. Although both toothed racks are longitudinally displaced by the same actuating element, as a rule only one of the two toothed racks is coupled to the actuating means while the other is uncoupled and stationary.
