Patent number: 8662405Abstract: A transportation trailer having a moving floor including a plurality of reciprocating slats for loading/unloading materials into the trailer. The trailer includes a system for warming the moving floor when the materials transported in the trailer freeze on the slats in cold weather. Using the pre-existing hollow structure of the slats, a stream of hot fluid or a hot fluid pipe is run inside the slats for thawing the frozen materials for unloading the trailer. The hot fluid may be provided from a hot fluid source on board of the trailer, for thawing the frozen materials while the trailer is on its way to the unloading site, or may be provided separately at the unloading site.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2009Date of Patent: March 4, 2014Assignee: Titan Trailers, Inc.Inventor: Michael Kloepfer

Patent number: 8662406Abstract: The invention provides a method and a system for controlling floor heating or climate regulating systems with long time constants. According to the invention, a flow of a fluid is provided through the floor or through a similar medium with large thermal inertia. An induced heat is determined by adding up a plurality of differences between an inlet temperature of the fluid when it enters the medium and an outlet temperature of the fluid when it leaves the medium. The temperatures are sampled with a fixed sampling time and within a fixed period of time, and a corresponding change in temperature of the medium over the fixed period of time is determined. In the future, the temperature of that medium is controlled by use of a ratio between the induced heat and the change in temperature.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 2007Date of Patent: March 4, 2014Assignee: Danfoss A/SInventors: Lars Finn Sloth Larsen, Honglian Thybo, Claus Thybo

Patent number: 8550888Abstract: An HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning) damper includes a series of pivotal damper blades that are opened by an air pressure differential across opposite sides of the damper. In some embodiments, a fan discharging against the damper blades provides the necessary air pressure to open the damper. To control how far the damper opens, an actuator moves a variable position abutment that obstructs the damper blades to limit how far they can pivot in the open direction. The position of the abutment is infinitely adjustable to provide the damper with infinite adjustment over a range of open positions. In some embodiments, the abutment applies a unidirectional torque to the damper blades regardless of whether the damper is opening or closing.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2009Date of Patent: October 8, 2013Assignee: Trane International Inc.Inventors: Edward Douglas Hildreth, Jr., Robert F. Patent number: 8540166Abstract: An air-conditioner ECU sets the maximum flowrate or a set flowrate which is less than the maximum flowrate as a required flowrate Vr based on outside air temperature when a DEF mode is selected, and requires that coolant be circulated (steps 100 to 110). Also, when the coolant temperature Tw during heating is between a set temperature TS3 and a set temperature TS1, circulation of coolant at the minimum flowrate is required (steps 134, 130, 132). When a blower fan is stopped when the coolant temperature is equal to or less than the set temperature TS3 and a fresh air mode is selected, the circulation of coolant at the minimum flowrate is required when the vehicle speed Sv is above a set vehicle speed (steps 134 to 146). Cool air is prevented from being blown out of an air outlet and heating of the coolant is promoted by suppressing the speed of an electric pump while maintaining the ability to prevent fogging.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2007Date of Patent: September 24, 2013Assignee: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Atsuki Nemoto, Kiwamu Inui, Masaki Morita

Patent number: 8534235Abstract: The present invention overcomes many of the disadvantages of prior art mobile oil field heat exchange systems by providing an oil-fired heat exchange system. The present invention is a self-contained unit which is easily transported to remote locations. The present invention includes a single-pass tubular coil heat exchanger contained within a closed-bottom firebox having a forced-air combustion and cooling system. The rig also includes integral fuel tanks, hydraulic and pneumatic systems for operating the rig at remote operations in all weather environments. In a preferred embodiment, the oil-fired heat exchanger system is used to heat water on-the-fly (i.e., directly from the supply source to the well head) to complete hydraulic fracturing operations. The present invention also includes systems for regulating and adjusting the fuel/air mixture within the firebox to maximize the combustion efficiency. The system includes a novel hood opening mechanism attached to the exhaust stack of the firebox.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 2009Date of Patent: September 17, 2013Inventor: Ronald L. Chandler

Patent number: 8528832Abstract: A system that supplements the cooling of the power train of the vehicle and maintains the vehicle's cabin temperature. The system includes an processor, a blower, a heater core, and an evaporator. The blower blows air over the heater core so as to make the heater core in essence an auxiliary radiator. The system further includes a first proportioning valve and a second proportioning valve. The proportioning valves are operable by the processor to control the flow of the dissipated heat between the vehicle cabin and a designated location. Specifically, the first proportioning valve is disposed upstream the heater core and is moveable between an open position and a closed position. The second proportioning valve is disposed downstream the heater core and directs airflow from the heater core between the vehicle cabin and the environment.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2009Date of Patent: September 10, 2013Assignee: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc.Inventors: Alan K. Williams, Eric F. Bursch, Edgar A. Vargas-CastaƱeda, Don Federico

Patent number: 8500528Abstract: An HVAC damper includes a sheet metal frame surrounding a series of pivotal damper blades that are each supported by a pair of plastic bearing members. Each bearing member is a unitary piece that includes a radial bearing, a thrust bearing, a lug for connecting to a damper blade, a shaft-receiving feature for connecting to a drive shaft, and multiple crank pins for selectively connecting to a drive linkage. Choosing which crank pin gets connected to the linkage determines a damper blade's rotational direction relative to the other damper blades. Adjacent damper blades preferably rotate in opposite directions to ensure positive sealing engagement between their adjacent blade tips. The bearing members allow the drive linkage to be installed outside the frame to avoid obstructing the airflow through the damper. During assembly, the bearing members allow the damper blades to be placed within the frame prior to installing the bearing members.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 2008Date of Patent: August 6, 2013Inventors: Don A. Leonhard, Larry A. Green, Brian D. Beam
