Abstract: A programmer to set his own input error handler after examining the context where the error occurs by utilizing a set error handler subroutine. The context may be provided by the system library to the user's handler routine so it can make a better judgment on how to proceed next. The customizable nature of the invention allows programmers to suit the error handling to individual application needs.
Abstract: A method, system and program for generating parity in a data storage system are provided. The invention comprises organizing an incoming data block into a specified number of data stripes and cascading the data stripes into a parity creation mechanism. The parity creation mechanism creates a specified number of parity stripes based on the data stripes, wherein the number of parity stripes is independent of the size of the data block. The parity creation mechanism can operate offline to reconstruct lost data stripes and parity stripes without using critical system resources, wherein the number of devices required for stripe reconstruction is less than the combined number of data stripes and parity stripes.

Abstract: A trace chip monitors a signal between a target logic chip having a data processing circuit mounted thereon and a memory chip having a memory storing data to be used by the target logic chip mounted therein, and traces an operation of the target logic chip. As the trace chip is implemented by a chip separate from the target logic chip and a memory chip, a debugging circuit need not be added to mass-produced articles when the trace chip is not mounted to the mass-produced articles. Thus, manufacturing cost of the articles can be reduced.
Abstract: An apparatus, program product and method propagate errors detected in an IO fabric element from an IO fabric that is used to couple a plurality of endpoint IO resources to processing elements in a computer. In particular, such errors are propagated to the endpoint IO resources affected by the IO fabric element in connection with recovering from the errors in the IO fabric element. By doing so, a device driver or other program code used to access each affected IO resources may be permitted to asynchronously recover from the propagated error in its associated IO resource, and often without requiring the recovery from the error in the IO fabric element to wait for recovery to be completed for each of the affected IO resources. In addition, an IO fabric may be dynamically configured to support both recoverable and non-recoverable endpoint IO resources.
