  • Patent number: 7730514
Abstract: A system for converting digital signals in a cable network is provided. A cable head end provides a plurality of digital signals. The plurality of digital signals are grouped into a first portion and a second portion, the first portion being in a first frequency band and the second portion being in a second frequency band. The system includes a digital channel remapping module configured to select one or more digital signals from the first portion and remap the selected one or more digital signals into a first plurality of analog signals and a digital-to-analog translator configured to convert the digital signals in the second portion to a second plurality of analog signals. The first and second plurality of analog signals are combined and delivered to at least one analog device. Some or all of the second plurality of analog signals are within the first frequency band.

  • Patent number: 7716706
Abstract: A multi-directional antenna connected with a digital television broadcast signal receiver is arranged not to move one full turn instantaneously in response to an abrupt drop down in the intensity of a received signal thus to avoid any downward overshooting of the intensity of the received signal and eliminate any useless direction searching time while remains favorably controlled to face in the direction where the intensity of the received signal is at optimum. More specifically, the maximum of the intensity of a received signal at each channel is measured and the threshold is set to a level lower than the maximum. When the intensity of a received signal has dropped down from the threshold, the antenna remains not turned within a predetermined period of marginal time. The antenna is moved one full turn only when the intensity drops down from the threshold and stays continuously over the predetermined period of marginal time.

  • Patent number: 7690016
Abstract: A television receiver is connected to a multi-directional antenna having multiple receiving directions for receiving a television signal by making one receiving direction active, and comprises a clock, a tuner, a memory for storing a receiving direction table having content containing channel numbers and a best receiving direction, and a microprocessor for controlling the receiver. Based on the time measured by the clock, the microprocessor renews the content of the table at a preset time, and outputs, to the antenna, a control signal to command a receiving direction for receiving one channel based on the renewed content of the table. The receiver can properly adapt to the variations in time of the receiving conditions of terrestrial broadcasts based on the renewed content of the table, and can automatically renew the content of the table in a time zone when a user does not view a television program.

  • Patent number: 7685621
Abstract: In a digital TV broadcast signal receiver connected to a multi-directional antenna called smart antenna, a time necessary for deciding an optimum signal receiving direction of each receivable channel is shortened with using local information relating to a location of the multi-directional antenna and information of TV towers including location information of TV towers and channel information of channels, TV broadcast signals of which are transmitted from each TV tower. When the local information is inputted, the digital TV broadcast signal receiver identifies at least one TV tower and selects a channel based on the channel information. An optimum signal receiving direction of the selected channel are decided as the optimum signal receiving directions of all the channels transmitted from the same TV tower.

  • Patent number: 7676820
Abstract: An apparatus for playing video content includes a play means (100) for playing video content. The video content includes overlapping scenes (621, 622, 641, 642, 661, 662, 681, 682), with each scene having an associated scene signature. A scene hopping selector (44) is operative while the play means (100) is playing video content for selecting a hop. The selecting defines a current scene (102) which the play means (100) is playing at a time of the selection, and a current scene signature corresponding to the current scene (102). A similar scene hopping processor (104) operates responsive to a defining of a current scene (102). The similar scene hopping processor (104) compares the current scene signature with other scene signatures of the video content to identify a similar scene (106). The similar scene hopping processor (104) causes the play means (100) to transfer the playing to the similar scene (106).

  • Patent number: 7631333
Abstract: Provided is a digital broadcast receiving apparatus that enables real-time viewing of information about a program of a current channel and a next program to be broadcast, and that can deal with a change in program, if any. In this digital broadcast receiving apparatus, when program information is found in the VBI of a television broadcast signal of a selected channel, the program information is temporarily stored in a memory. When program information display setting is enabled, the program information is read from the memory, and then a program information screen showing the program information including start time, end time, title, and VideoPlus number is displayed in a predetermined area of a display screen. Program information obtained when a predetermined time has elapsed is newly stored in the memory.

  • Patent number: 7607158
Abstract: The objective of this invention is to provide a solution that enable real, delayed or relayed time trade and delivery of time-tagged electronic information items from/among same or different regions' information content providers (190a, 190b) and/or their subscribers (201, 202, 211, 212, 221, 222), or via their corresponding region's information content network operators and their subscribers (201, 202, 211, 212, 221, 222). In order to realize the objective, this invention provide a system to select wanted information items and package the unselected or for-not-use information items in specified time frame by mapping and grouping via a grid/matrics to packaging, labeling and pricing the items into for-trade-items or dealpacks and register them into trading database (200); a system for dealpack listing, online searching and purchasing; and dealpack's secret key submitting, verifying, encrypting transmission and decrypting delivery.

  • Patent number: 7421728
Abstract: In interactive television, a broadcaster may broadcast triggers to a great many receiver units prompting the receiver units to attempt to send requests to a single destination on the Internet at roughly the same time. Such a large number of simultaneous requests can give rise to throughput problems and server overload. A receiver unit in accordance with the invention, rather than immediately attempting to send a request, waits a period of time (for example, a random period) before sending the request so as not to overload the server. In one embodiment, a trigger is received on an interactive television receiver unit prompting the viewer to select an icon. If the viewer selects the icon, then a browser in the receiver unit retrieves a web page on the Internet identified by a URL in the trigger. The web page includes an indication of a destination, scheduling information, and a form area. The viewer enters user information in association with the form area.
