The digital media device can include gateway and digital media management functionality and can be referred to as a gateway and digital media device. The device offers application services obtained over a wide area network and a user premises network. The digital media device may form a composite signal from the media signal and application service information, for example, for a composite audio and/or video signal for television type presentation to the user. The digital media device may receive a selection signal based on the presentation, for transmission to the application service provider device or to the media source. The media device also offers a GUI presenting a moveable arrangement of icons for selectively accessing application services.

Abstract: Controlling the admission of interactive television iTV applications to an iTV application distribution system is accomplished through the use of iTV application profiles that enumerate sets of allowed functions and behaviors for the iTV applications within the distribution system. In general, the profiles comprise filters that enable various functions within the distribution system, and may be applied to the iTV applications according to any of a number of bases. The distribution system includes an interface or console adapted to permit a system operator to create the application profiles and establish rules for attaching the profiles to the iTV applications, and an application profile engine configured to automatically validate the iTV applications against the profiles according to those rules.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention: provide, from a first VOD server having a first cache, a first media presentation to a first group of user devices and a second media presentation to a second group of user devices; provide, from a second VOD server having a second cache, a third content to a third group of user devices; measure a first popularity corresponding to the first media presentation and a second popularity corresponding to the second media presentation; store a copy of the first media presentation on the second cache based on the first popularity and the second popularity; determine when the first VOD server fails to continue to provide the first media presentation; and provide, from the second VOD server, the first media presentation to the first group of user devices, wherein the first cache has the first media presentation stored therein, and wherein the second cache has the second media presentation stored therein.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems and methods that select programming information for inclusion in informational displays. In one example, for a particular instance of content stream associated with a content distributor carrying a version of the program at a particular air time, the information retrieval system can determine whether such instance constitutes local programming or national programming. As one example, the system can determine whether a first version of a program is local programming or national programming based at least in part on a comparison of a first content stream that includes the first version of the program with at least one other content stream that is associated with a same content distributor and also associated with a time zone associated with a user.

Abstract: An exemplary method includes a media service system providing a manifest file for use by a media player to perform adaptive bitrate switching in accordance with an adaptive bitrate streaming heuristic, the manifest file including data that associates a first media program provided by an on-demand media service with a first bitrate and a second media program provided by the on-demand media service with a second bitrate; directing the media player to present the first media program; detecting, while the first media program is being presented, a channel change command provided by the user; and directing, in response to the channel change command, the media player to switch from presenting the first media program to presenting the second media program by providing the media player with a command to use the manifest file to switch from the first bitrate to the second bitrate. Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for causing a stunt switcher to run a bug-overlay digital video effect (DVE). In one aspect, a method involves (i) selecting a first log-entry from a traffic log, wherein the first log-entry corresponds to a bug-overlay DVE stored in the stunt switcher, and to a start time; (ii) selecting a second log-entry from the traffic log, wherein the second log-entry corresponds to a video component (VC) and the start time; (iii) causing the VC to start being channeled through the stunt switcher proximate the start time; (iv) making a determination that a threshold time-period has passed since the start time; and (v) responsive to making the determination that the threshold time-period has passed since the start time, causing the stunt switcher to run the stored bug-overlay DVE, thereby overlaying a bug on the VC as the VC is being channeled through the stunt switcher.

Abstract: A media playback method, client device and system are described. The method includes: acquiring, by a client device, audio information from a radio station, and extracting audio feature information from the audio information; sending the audio feature information to a server; receiving media information that is matched according to the audio feature information and returned by the server; downloading a corresponding media file from the server according to the media information at a current playback progress; and switching a current playback mode from the radio station to a media player, and playing the downloaded media file according to a playback progress of the radio station.

Abstract: Systems and methods for performing an action based on viewing positions of other users are provided. Viewing progress in a media asset of each of a plurality of users is retrieved. The viewing progress of each of the plurality of users is compared to identify a maximum viewing progress that is common to each of the plurality of users. A request from a user to access the media asset is received. A current viewing progress in the media asset of the user is monitored to determine when the current viewing progress of the user matches the identified maximum viewing progress that is common to each of the plurality of users. In response to determining that the current viewing progress of the user matches the identified maximum viewing progress, a message with an option to perform an action relative to the media asset is generated for display to the user.

Abstract: In one embodiment, an image analysis is performed on an image captured using a camera mounted on an autonomous vehicle, the image representing an exterior environment of an autonomous vehicle. Localization information surrounding the autonomous vehicle is obtained at a point in time. A perception of an audience external to the autonomous vehicle is determined based on the image analysis and the localization information. One or more content items are received from one or more content servers over a network in response to the perception of the audience. A first content item selected from the one or more content items is displayed on a display device mounted on an exterior surface of the autonomous vehicle.

The extracted informational banner is combined with video content from the second source at a display location that is automatically determined or selected by a user. The combined content is then provided to a display device for presentation to the user.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a network media information delivery controlling method. In the method, a computing device obtains network media information after a pause operation for a video is detected, obtains social element data corresponding to the network media information according to a login state of a user, and displays the network media information and the social element data corresponding to the network media information on a pause interface of the video. According to the present disclosure, attention for pause network media information of a video is improved, and waste for machines and network resources are reduced.
