Abstract: DVD-video data and DVD-audio data are recorded in a DVD-Avd disc. The DVD-audio data is composed of an audio manager having an audio manager information, an audio manager menu, a first audio title set including first audio data and a second audio title set including second audio data. The first audio data of the first audio title set is connected with audio contents included in the DVD-video data, and a real time information (RTI) pack or a still picture (SPCT) pack is included in the second audio title set. Therefore, the audio contents of the DVD-video data and the audio data of the DVD-audio data are managed by the audio manager information, and text information indicated by real time information or a still picture is displayed while reproducing the audio data. Also, DVD-video data recorded in a DVD-video disc, which is normally reproduced by using a reproducing apparatus dedicated to the DVD-video disc, can be reproduced by using a reproducing apparatus for the DVD-Avd disc.

  • Patent number: 6459851
Abstract: An apparatus for processing a digitized analog signal read from a DVD media and provided to a digital processing system is described herein. The apparatus includes a DVD reading apparatus for providing a signal comprised of a stream of actual data read from a DVD media; and a processor for determining, based upon the comparison of actual data to the known ideal contents of the data on said DVD media, the magnitude of no more than two variables representing at least three coefficients in an impulse response equation which models the digital processing system. The magnitude of the two variables are determined by the processor so that the error rate between the first and second sets of data is minimized.

  • Patent number: 6445872
Abstract: A bit stream which is a data string including coded data of a multiplicity of channels is output from a tuner section 22, and a recording channel selection section 23 selects coded data of a desired channel from the bit stream and output by configuring the data string. The data string output from the recording channel selection section 23 is recorded to and reproduced from a magnetic tape of a recording and reproducing section 24 by a rotary head. The coded data of the data string reproduced from the recording and reproducing section 24 is discompression-encoded by an MPEG2 decoder 25 and a video signal is output.

  • Patent number: 6411771
Abstract: An MPEG1 real time encoder board generates index data as an evaluation value representing the complexity of a picture. A scene change parameter representing the degree of a scene change occurring in the picture is then calculated from the index data. The scene change parameter is associated with a scene change pointer, that is, position information on a location of the picture in which a scene change occurs to a degree indicated by the scene change parameter. The scene change parameter and the scene change pointer are recorded as an index in an index file. On the other hand, an MPEG system stream output by the MPEG1 real time encoder board is stored in an MPEG file separated from the index file.

  • Patent number: 6370314
Abstract: A magnetic recording and reproduction apparatus having a recording characteristic correction function corrects a recording characteristic according to characteristics of tape and head mechanism, to provide an optimal recording condition. The apparatus of the present invention records a test signal for measuring the characteristics of the tape and the head mechanism on tape, reproduces the recorded test signal, and then obtains a recording level at the time when reproduced output is maximized and a sideband level at the time when a ratio of a carrier component and a lower sideband component reaches a predetermined target value, respectively. Accordingly, an input video signal is modulated according to the obtained results. Thus, an effect is provided so that a signal can be recorded in an optimal recording condition irrespective of a deviation of the tape and the head.

  • Patent number: 6353700
Abstract: The present invention has been made in consideration of linear reverse playback of MPEG video data and has particular applications to video special effect editing. According to one aspect of the present invention, the disclosed system uses a minimum number of frame storage to buffer decompressed I and P frames so as to decompress B frames in a reverse order and subsequently display the B frames. Every time, it comes to display the decompressed I and P frames buffered in the frame storage, an I frame or a P frame in a group of picture (GOP) prior to current GOP is decompressed and buffered into one of the frame storage that becomes available when the content therein has been retrieved for display. The cyclic use of the frame storage and the time that would be otherwise spent for decompressing B frames guarantees a linear reverse playback of MPEG video data without showing retardant visual effects that often result from non-even decoding processes in displaying compressed frames.

  • Patent number: 6289173
Abstract: In a recording and reproducing apparatus with image coding for compression coding of digital video signals and for recording and reproducing the compressed code, digital video signals are divided on a screen into coding blocks which are overlapped so as to share boundary pixels. DCT coefficient data in each coding block are divided into a plurality of groups, and coefficient data in two coding blocks overlapping on the screen are recorded to separate regions on a recording medium. When an error has occurred during a reproducing process, the state of the error occurrence is analyzed and an error correction responsive to the state of error occurrence is performed on coefficient data that has been lost due to the error. Thus, a stable, successful reproduced image can be obtained even if an error occurs during the recording and reproducing process.
