Abstract: The invention provides a method for the preparation of an amorphous silicate of at least one metal from the Group 4 of the Periodic Table of Elements with a total pore volume of at least 0.3 mL/g. The method of preparation involves the use of pore shaping conditions, which can be the use of a pore shaper and optionally an increased precipitation temperature, e.g. at least 60° C. The silicate of the invention is especially suitable in catalytic reactions such as esterifications, Michael additions, transesterifications, (ep)oxidations, hydroxylations, or in adsorbance of small inorganic and organic molecules e.g. CO2 or aromatic compounds.

Abstract: There is provided a process for the reduction of one or more amide moieties in a compound comprising contacting the compound with hydrogen gas and a transition metal catalyst in the presence or absence of a base under conditions for the reduction an amide bond. Abstract: An adsorbent for halogenated anaesthetics includes: an inorganic material; and an organic material providing a framework for the inorganic material. A method of producing an adsorbent includes: selecting an appropriate chemical containing an inorganic material; selecting an organic material to provide a framework for the inorganic material; dissolving the base chemical in water; mixing the organic material with the dissolved base chemical; heating the mixture; filtering the mixture to remove excess organic material; and drying the filtrate.

Abstract: A non-hydroxylic-solvent soluble silver complex has a reducible silver ion complexed with an ?-oxy carboxylate and a primary alkylamine. The reducible silver ions can be quickly and efficiently reduced to electrically-conductive silver metal upon exposure to UV-visible radiation in various methods.

Abstract: Proposed is a method of producing soluble silicates with organic cations at a given silicate modulus in the range of 1.5 to 20. The method consists of the reacting liquid suspension of a silica sol with the aqueous solution of a strong organic base. The silicate modulus is a molar ratio of SiO2:M2O, wherein M is an organic alkali cation. The aqueous solution of a strong organic base has a constant of base dissociation pKb equal to or greater than 4. If necessary, the soluble silicates with organic cations are obtained in a powdered form by evaporating the solution of the soluble silicates under vacuum below 4.2 kPa and at a temperature in the range of 20 to 30° C. and the product of evaporation are then dried by spraying.

Abstract: A novel nickel particulate form is provided that efficiently forms a zero-valent nickel complex with a phosphorus-containing ligands in an organic liquid to form a hydrocyanation catalyst. Particles in the nickel particulate form comprise nickel crystallites. For example, the nickel particulate form can have a BET Specific Surface Area of at least about 1 m2/gm; an average crystallite size less than about 20-25 nm, the nickel particulate form can have at least 10% of the crystallites in the nickel form can have can have a diameter (C10) of less than about 10 nm, and/or there are on average at least about 1015 surface crystallites per gram nickel. A ratio of BET SSA to C50 for the nickel particulate form can be at least about 0.1×109 m/gm and preferably at least about 0.4×109 m/gm. Methods of preparation and use are also provided.
