Patent number: 6967697Abstract: Alignment of an imaging area of a display with a user's eye provides optimum image quality for the user. Typically, a display is formed of a display panel encased within a carrier. The carrier is used to mechanically align the display panel within a device housing. However, the display panel must first be aligned within the carrier and the carrier and display combination aligned within a device housing. By utilizing the display panel without the carrier, one alignment step is removed from the installation process. Placing the display panel within a housing having an alignment device ensures proper alignment of an imaging area of the display panel with an opening of the housing.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2001Date of Patent: November 22, 2005Assignee: Kopin CorporationInventors: Matthew Zavracky, Rodney J. Patent number: 6909484Abstract: A cholesteric display may be formed, in some embodiments, using a single display element to produce multi-colors for display. A cholesteric material may be sandwiched between a pair of substrates, each associated with pairs of opposed electrodes that are arranged in general transversely to the optical axis of incident light. The first pair of electrodes produce one of two liquid crystal states and result in the reflection of light of a particular wavelength. Light of other wavelengths may be reflected when a second pair (or set) of opposed electrodes, arranged in general transversely, also to the optical axis of incident light, are biased appropriately. So does a third pair (or set) of electrodes. A black and white color display may be generated from a single display element by modulating the pitch length of the cholesteric material within each pairs (or sets).Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2002Date of Patent: June 21, 2005Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: David B.
