  • Patent number: 8244260
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for global wireless sensor network architecture and protocol for remote supervision, asset control and operational management based on localized clusters of autonomous sensor/supervision/operational sensor nodes capable of ad hoc interconnection with nearby nodes and connection to gateway nodes with increased network functionality. These localized cluster nodes send data to gateway nodes either directly or through multi-hop transactions. The gateway nodes are, in turn, connected to other gateway nodes and operations control centers either through wireless or wired data communications links. Utilizing the Internet for long range interconnectivity, the network is scaleable to a global level. The resulting network is based on an ad hoc mesh topology to allow flexibility in network modification and expansion and is comprised of a tiered structure defined by increasing functionality.

  • Patent number: 8238929
Abstract: A method used in a receiver includes measuring first Received Signal Strength Indications (RSSIs) in respective first communication channels, which are located in a given frequency band and which each have a first channel bandwidth. Based on the first RSSIs, second RSSIs are computed for respective second communication channels, which are located in the given frequency band and which each have a second channel bandwidth that is larger than the first channel bandwidth. At least one of the first and second communication channels over which to receive signals at the receiver are selected using the first and second RSSIs.

  • Patent number: 8213915
Abstract: A method, system, and computer readable media are provided for maintaining a mobile session. A session identifier and an associated idle time period are created by the gateway as part of a session header between a wireless device and a content source. When an interruption occurs before a session request for information or data has been completed, the partially transferred information or data is buffered on the gateway, along with its associated session identifier. When the wireless device reconnects, using the associated session identifier header, then the buffered information or data is transferred from the gateway, to the wireless device. The resumed transfer of information or data occurs at the point where the partial transfer stopped, when the interruption occurred. The information or data is completely transferred from the content source to the wireless device, via the gateway.

  • Patent number: 8208949
Abstract: A navigation system for portable communications devices may comprise computer programs for providing a geographical context for display in the portable device. The portable device periodically interacts with at least one of a telecommunications network and a GPS network to update an information portal with current location information. The navigation system includes displaying information on the portable communications device representative of a change in location of the mobile telephone device or a change in location of another tracked device. The information representative of the change in location can be overlaid on the geographical context and both displayed in the mobile telephone device. The combined geographical context and specific location data is scaled to fit a display on a portable communications device. Other embodiments provide means for obtaining information representative of a location of some object or of another object for display in the mobile telephone device.

  • Patent number: 8190127
Abstract: A process is provided in which a first device, e.g., a hub device of a home network, is temporarily provided with a SIM to store a challenge-response, and thereafter the first device uses the stored challenge-response to interrogate a second device, e.g., a mobile telephone, to authenticate that the second device now has the SIM with which the first device was previously provided. A further process is provided in which the second device authenticates that the first device previously had access to the SIM by verifying that a response from one or more challenge-response pairs provided by the first device to the second device is the same as a response received by the second device from the SIM when the second device interrogates the SIM with the challenge of the challenge-response pair received earlier from the first device.

  • Patent number: 8180339
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses and systems directed to providing network management information to wireless access points in a wireless network. In one implementation, a wireless client interrogates a wireless access point for its MAC address, for service set identifier (SSID) information, and/or for authentication-related information. If the wireless client determines that the wireless access point is the correct wireless access point, the wireless client polls sensors for physical environment and parameter (PEP) data, which the wireless client then transmits to the wireless access point.

A subscriber can create a mobile domain by selecting and registering at least one available keyword with a mobile domain platform for the subsequent processing of text messages sent to the platform which include one or more of the registered keywords. Also, the subscriber can register one or more keywords as a root for a mobile domain such that subsequent text messages sent to the mobile domain platform that include additional alphanumeric strings of text (root keyword plus one or more combinations of other predetermined keywords) can be automatically processed to enable one or more different actions. A mobile domain keyword is generally composed of one or more alphanumeric characters, and can be any one of a word, phrase, abbreviation, or character.
