Abstract: A method for quantitatively and/or qualitatively assaying an analyte in a sample, wherein the analyte is a receptor binding compound, has low detection limits equivalent to those of radioreceptor assays. The method comprises the steps of a) contacting the sample with material comprising a receptor for the analyte in order for receptor-analyte binding to occur and b) further contacting the sample with a detectable ligand for the receptor in order for receptor-ligand binding to occur, followed by c) separating the resulting receptor bound and free fractions, d) subjecting the receptor bound fraction to dissociating conditions releasing the ligand from the receptor and e) assaying for the dissociated ligand in a manner known per se for the detection of the detectable ligand.

Abstract: Process is provided for oxidation of organic compounds in which a reaction zone is provided, containing an open space and a bed of solid granular catalyst, an organic feedstock and oxygen are passed in gas phase through the open space and then into contact with the catalyst bed, and reaction products are removed from the open space after relatively less contact with the catalyst, and from at least one other location after relatively greater contact with the catalyst. Greater yield of desired product may be obtained in such operation than in operation where all of the reaction products are removed after the greater contact with the catalyst.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for removing double metal cyanide complex catalyst residue(s) from polyol(s) which comprises after polyol formation the steps of: (a) contacting the catalyst residue-containing polyol with an effective amount of an oxidant to cause said residue(s) to form insoluble residues that are insoluble in the polyol, and (b) separating the insoluble residues from the polyol. In another aspect, the present invention relates to the oxidant-free polyol produced by the above process.

Abstract: A method is disclosed wherein t-butanol is reacted with methanol in a reaction zone in one step to provide methyl tert-butyl ether and the improvement of accomplishing the reaction which comprises:a. Using a catalyst consisting of a crystalline aluminosilicate faujasite Y-type zeolite which has been treated with a fluorosulfonic acid;b. continuously contacting said t-butanol and methanol in a molar amount of about 0.1 to 10 moles of methanol per mole of t-butanol with said catalyst at a temperature of about 20.degree. C. to about 250.degree. C. and a pressure of about atmospheric to about 1000 psig to obtain the methyl tert-butyl ether product.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of 2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diol by an addition reaction between isobutyraldehyde and formaldehyde in the presence of tertiary amines as the catalyst, hydrogenation of the reaction mixture, and subsequent distillation. Before the distillation, formaldehyde is added to the hydrogenation product to remove unwanted basic impurities.
