  • Patent number: 5158408
Abstract: In a support device to hold a tool or a workpiece, a tightening cylinder is provided at inside with an insertion hole for a substance to be held and on an outer circumference with a taper surface, a rotary cylinder is rotatably and externally fitted to outside of the tightening cylinder through a number of rollers, the rotary cylinder is rotated thereby the rotary cylinder is moved towards diameter side of the tightening cylinder and the tightening cylinder is contracted so as to tighten the substance to be held. Since a number of strain absorbing holes are provided on the inner circumferential surface of the tightening cylinder and scattered uniformly in the axial direction and in the circumferential direction, the deflection adaptability of the tightening cylinder is high and the tightening cylinder can be contracted by a relatively small force.

  • Patent number: 5136896
Abstract: A rotary indexing apparatus includes a housing and an indexing member in the form of a plate mounted for rotation in the housing. Locating pins are received in apertures in the indexing plate to effectively lock the indexing plate and an affixed spindle in an indexed position. The apparatus also includes a rotary cylinder assembly including a pair of diametrically opposed rotary vanes mounted for reciprocation within a cavity formed in the housing. A partition plate divides the cavity into two separate compartments with each of the compartments divided by the rotary vane into a pair of variable volume chambers. Each of the rotary vanes also includes a piston assembly having an integral indexing pin that may be selectively extended into the apertures in the indexing plate thereby displacing the locating pins. A pressurized fluid source is provided to displace the rotary vanes through a selected angle and thereby index the indexing plate and attached spindle in the desired manner.

  • Patent number: 5123789
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for effecting a machining operation, e.g. drilling, on a multi-layered printed circuit board utilizing a machining apparatus having a spindle for driving a tool. The spindle is movable in the axial direction of the tool and a pressure foot for pressing the printed circuit board during the machining is mounted on the spindle for relative movement with respect thereto. The method includes the steps of determining the position of the end of a tool with respect to the end of a pressure foot in the state before the pressure foot contacts the printed circuit board, setting the amount of relative movement between the pressure foot and the tool necessary for effecting the desired machining, on the basis of the position of the end of the tool and a predetermined set value of the machining depth; and effecting the machining on the printed circuit board by controlling the feed of the tool in conformity with the amount of relative movement.

  • Patent number: 5116168
Abstract: In drilling control method and apparatus for making holes through a composite workpiece made of a plurality of materials having different machining properties, the workpiece is first drilled at a feed speed and a rotational speed of a drill which are selected. When the drilling of the workpiece is initiated, the amounts of the feeding speed and the rotational speed are detected by a feed speed sensor and a rotational speed sensor, respectively, and thrust force applied to the drill during the drilling is also detected by a thrust sensor. The detected feed speed and the rotational speed of the drill are compared in a comparison unit with optimum values which are adapted to the detected thrust force.

  • Patent number: 5096341
Abstract: A hole saw and drive includes a cup-shaped saw body having a closed end and a plurality of cutting teeth. A left-hand threaded collar is secured to the closed end and defines one or more drive tabs extending into the saw body interior. A left-hand threaded mandrel is received within the threaded collar and includes a pilot drill and intermediate outwardly extending flange. An additional set of one or more drive tabs extend upwardly toward the threaded collar from the flange. The drive tabs cooperate to couple rotational power from the mandrel to the saw body. The left-hand threads on the mandrel and collar cooperate to permit the reverse rotational operation of the mandrel to expel a cutting plug from the saw body interior.

  • Patent number: 5014421
Abstract: A blade having a concavely shaped leading edge is cut. The blade has first and second side faces, a tip profile and a root profile. Each profile has a first and second profile side corresponding with the first and second side faces. The cutter is positioned between the first root profile side and the first tip profile side. The tip profile and root profile are followed with two cutter portions of the cutter along the first root and tip profile sides toward the leading edge to cut the first side face. One of the cutter portions is translated around to the second profile side before the other cutter portion is translated to the second profile side, causing the formation of the concave leading edge. The tip and root profile is followed with the cutter, along the second profile side away from the leading edge to cut the second side face.

  • Patent number: 5002291
Abstract: In an automatic screw machine two spindles are mounted coaxially one within the other and are keyed together for rotation in unison in the indexing head of the machine. The inner spindle has a collet on one end thereof; the outer spindle is shiftable axially relative to the inner spindle between collet opening and closing positions. A spring, which surrounds the inner spindle at one end thereof, urges a washer on the inner spindle against one end of the outer spindle normally to urge the outer spindle resiliently into a collet closing position. A hydraulic cylinder, which surrounds the outer spindle at the side of washer remote from the spring, contains a piston which is engaged at one side with the washer and at its opposite side communicates with a fluid pressure chamber. To open the collet pressure is applied to the fluid in the chamber, thereby causing the piston to compress the spring and to permit the outer spindle to move to a collet opening position.

  • Patent number: 4971488
Abstract: A first table (1) slidable leftwards and rightwards of a gear finishing machine and a second table (2) slidable forwards and rearwards of the machine are disposed in an overlapped relationship such that one of the tables is mounted on the top of the other table. Of these tables, the upper table is guided by a horizontal guide member (3) which is adapted to be rotated to any desired angular position and to be clamped at such position. A feed motor (5) drives the first table to slide. For sliding the table assembly along a diagonal direction, the angular position of the guide member is adjusted so that it extends along such direction.A horizontal stability of the table assembly is secured without employing a conventional parallel link mechanism. The table assembly is driven to slide so as to pass the center of machine so that an accuracy of gear finishing is assured.

  • Patent number: 4969781
Abstract: A hand tool for the preparation of an off-set bore relative to a countersunk recess in a structural plate member wherein a pilot sleeve with a central bore slidably support an upper hollow sleeve that is spring biased away from the pilot sleeve. A bushing secured to the upper portion of said hollow sleeve also retains a drill bit that extends in to the pilot sleeve while the shank end is connectable to a drill for rotation and axial movement with the hollow sleeve relative to the pilot sleeve to drill a through bore in the plate member whose axis is off-set relative to a tapered countersunk conical recess in the plate member. The lower end of the pilot sleeve has a tapered annular surface or conical recess whose central axis is off-set relative to the axis of the central bore of said pilot sleeve, and a handle is secured to the pilot sleeve to position and hold the hand tool in the countersunk recess of the plate member as it is drilled.

  • Patent number: 4955622
Abstract: The stop apparatus fits into the bore of a collet and incorporates a sleeve which is expanded in diameter to lock the apparatus in place. The stop face is the end of a cylindrical rod which slides in a bore in the body of the apparatus and is held at a desired position by a set screw. The body is a body of revolution with a bore for accepting the rod and an outer surface comprising a flange at one end, a cylindrical portion, a threaded portion and a knurled portion at the other end. The flange has a conical surface facing the cylindrical portion. The cylindrical portion is surrounded by a split, resilient sleeve held in place by a nut threaded onto the threaded portion. The nut has a conical surface also facing the cylindrical portion. The conical surfaces engage chamfers at the ends of the internal surface of the sleeve so that turning the nut on the body toward and away from the flange causes the sleeve to expand or allows it to contract.
