Patent number: 3954867Abstract: A continuous process is described for the preparation of methylene-bridged polyphenyl polyamines containing di(aminophenyl)methane having a high, p,p'-isomer content (at least 98 percent by weight). Fluid streams of aqueous aniline hydrochloride solution and aqueous formaldehyde are intermixed at one end of a continuous tubular reactor, passed therethrough at 0.degree.C to 75.degree.C in about 3 seconds to about 120 seconds, thence to recycle in a cooling zone (less than 60.degree.C), optionally to a holding zone (temperature less than 70.degree.C) and finally to a final reaction zone (temperature 60.degree.C to 120.degree.C) to complete the reaction. The diamine content in the polyamines is controlled by molar ratio of aniline hydrochloride to formaldehyde in the feeds. Preferably the holding zone, where employed, and final reaction zone comprise a continuous tubular vessel.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 1973Date of Patent: May 4, 1976Inventors: Bernard D. Funk, Jr., Jerardo Mongiello, Warren J. Rabourn

Patent number: 3933913Abstract: N,N'-Bis[2-(3-substituted-4-hydroxyphenyl)-ethyl or-2-hydroxyethyl]-polymethylenediamines having .beta.-adrenergic stimulant activity particularly as selective bronchodilators, are prepared generally by condensation of an N-benzylphenethylamine with a polymethylene dihalide or by reaction of an .alpha.-bromoacetophenone with an N,N'-dibenzyl-polymethylenediamine, with further operations depending on the nature of the 3-substituent, and subsequently hydrogenating catalytically with for example palladium-on-carbon. The key intermediates are also part of the invention.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1972Date of Patent: January 20, 1976Assignee: SmithKline CorporationInventors: Donald F. Colella, Carl Kaiser

Patent number: 3931321Abstract: Preparation and isolation in substance of ortho-aminothiphenols by the reduction of ortho-chloronitrobenzenes with hydrogensulfides or sulfides, subsequent neutralization in the presence of sulfites, hydrogensulfites or disulfites, separation and following purification of the crude products. The ortho-aminothiophenols are obtained in very good yields and with a high degree of purity. Oxydation to the disulfide compound is avoided by the processes of the invention.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1974Date of Patent: January 6, 1976Assignee: Hoechst AktiengesellschaftInventors: Siegfried Planker, Konrad Baessler

Patent number: 3931320Abstract: A process for the production of aromatic polyamines comprising condensing primary or secondary aromatic amines with formaldehyde or a formaldehyde precursor in the presence of an acid catalyst and liberating the polyamines on completion of condensation by the addition of a basically reacting reagent, wherein a mixture containing amine, catalyst, aldehyde, precondensates formed therefrom, and water, issuing from a mixer at a maximum temperature of about 40.degree.C., is separated intoA. a side stream in which the heat liberated from the reacting mixture is dissipated in a heat exchanger following dilution of the total quantity of mixture of amine and catalyst, cooled to below about 40.degree.C., required for the reaction and the mixture thus obtained is reintroduced at a temperature of at most about 40.degree.C. into the mixer where formaldehyde is added, andB. a main stream which is pumped, through a reaction zone kept at a maximum of about 40.degree.C.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1972Date of Patent: January 6, 1976Assignee: Bayer AktiengesellschaftInventors: Willi Eifler, Roderich Raue, Ernst-Heinrich Rohe, Josef Finkel
