Abstract: A dibenzocyclooctadiene type lignan can be efficiently prepared by extracting a plant containing a dibenzocyclooctadiene type lignan with a low polar solvent, subjecting the resulting extract to partition extraction with a water-insoluble low polar solvent and a water-soluble high polar solvent, at least one time, and recovering the dibenzocyclooctadiene type lignan from the layer of the water-soluble high polar solvent.
Abstract: A composition for suppressing the absorption of saccharides comprises a Gymnema inodrum extract. The extract is prepared by drying and then roasting the leaves of the Gymnema inodrum or by subjecting the leaves of Gymnema inodrum to extraction with hot water or an alcohol and condensing the extract.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of preparation of an improved extract from Ginkgo biloba leaves and to pharmaceuticals containing the extract.
Abstract: Disclosed is a treatment of hypertension with an effective amount of tannins extracted from Sapium sebiferum leaves, the tannins are 6-O-galloyl-D-glucose, corilagin, geraniin and 1,2,3,4,6-penta-O-galloyl-.beta.-D-glucose.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for determining a slight amount of NADH or XTP which is present in a solution, with high sensitivity by the use of an NADH kinase specific for NADH by utilizing a cycling reaction, and this method permits highly sensitive determination of NADH without any influence of NAD.sup.+ and hence is useful for diagnoses of diseases and the like.

Abstract: A product and method of treating tissue particularly during the embalming process. The product is produced by drying and finely grinding plants from the Plantain family to a powder. The method involves applying the powder to wounds, incisions and the like to form closure.
Abstract: An aqueous solution containing a high concentration of ginkgo leaf extract having good preservability is prepared. The aqueous solution containing ginkgo leaf extract comprises at least 1 weight % of a hydrous organic solvent extract obtained from ginkgo leaf, and further disaccharide alcohols and/or trisaccharide alcohols, and/or organic compounds having a basic nitrogen atom in the molecule and a solubility in water at normal temperature of at least 10 g/100 ml.

Abstract: The present invention relates to compositions and methods of their use for the management or biocontrol on insect pests. The compositions comprise an entomopathogen and a chitin synthetase inhibitor alone or in combination with a UV protectant. Alternatively, compositions are disclosed comprising an entomopathogen and a fluorescent brightener of the stilbene type which may have chitin synthetase inhibitory properties. Specifically, entomopathogens such as Nuclear polyhedrosis viruses (NPV), Cytoplasmic polyhedrosis viruses (CPV), Entomopox viruses (EPV) and Granulosis viruses (GV) and iridescent virus (IV) are protected from UV radiation and their biological activity enhanced using fluorescent brighteners analogs, particularly, 4, 4'-diamino-2, 2'-stilbene disulfonic acid.

Abstract: Disclosed are concentrated water-in-oil neem oil emulsions containing a pesticidally effective amount of azadirachtin, which concentrated emulsions, upon dilution with water, form storage stable oil-in-water emulsions.
Abstract: A polyprenyl composition consisting essentially of a mixture of polyprenyl compounds represented by the following formula ##STR1## wherein A.sub.1 represents a hydroxyl or acetyloxy group, ##STR2## represents a trans-isoprene unit, ##STR3## represents a cis-isoprene unit, and n is an integer of from 11 to 19, said mixture containing substantial amounts of at least three compounds of formula (I) wherein n represents 14, 15 and 16 respectively as essential ingredients in a total amount of at least 70% by weight based on the weight of the mixture; and new compounds derived from the polyprenyl compounds of formula (I). These composition and compounds are useful for the synthesis of mamammalian dolichols.
