  • Patent number: 9448569
Abstract: A system for controlling the cooling fan within an electronic display based on the amount of ambient light present. An ambient light sensor is used to measure the amount of ambient light which is contacting the display. To anticipate a temperature rise and lower the thermal inertia of the display, the fan speed is increased when high ambient light levels are measured at the exterior of the display. The ambient light sensor data may be used to apply a temperature correction factor to a temperature sensor within the display. Alternatively, the ambient light sensor data may be used to apply a fan speed correction factor to a desired fan speed (calculated based on a temperature sensor within the display). Multiple systems or methods can be used simultaneously within the display to cool several components which may heat and cool at different rates relative to one another.

  • Patent number: 9429937
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to systems and processes for detecting and rejecting defective absorbent articles from a converting line. In particular, the systems and methods may utilize feedback from technologies, such as vision systems, sensors, remote input and output stations, and controllers with synchronized embedded clocks to accurately correlate inspection results and measurements from an absorbent article converting process. As such, the systems and methods may accurately apply the use of precision clock synchronization for both instrumentation and control system devices on a non-deterministic communications network. In turn, the clock synchronized control and instrumentation network may be used to control a reject system on converters of absorbent articles. In some embodiments, the controller will reject only defective absorbent articles without the need to reject non-defective absorbent articles.

  • Patent number: 9429921
Abstract: In order to reduce computation time and cost involved with determining one or more optimal parameters for a pre-cooling strategy, for a modeled system, a two-step genetic algorithms is used to optimize energy consumption of the modeled system with respect to cost of the energy consumption. A first step of the two-step genetic algorithms determines a population of potential solutions that are used to initialize a second step of the two-step genetic algorithm. The second step of the two-step genetic algorithm determines the one or more optimal parameters for the pre-cooling strategy from the population output by the first genetic algorithm.

  • Patent number: 9429933
Abstract: A numerical controller for a machine tool has a component inspection timing notification function for notifying a user of the timing for inspection of each individual component used in the machine tool. The numerical controller reads an inspection cycle, acquires the date of inspection and state quantity of the component, and calculates an amount of change in state quantity. If the amount of change in state quantity is larger than a predetermined threshold, the inspection cycle is changed. If not, the next inspection date is calculated based on the last inspection date and the inspection cycle. Then, the next inspection date is notified.
