    Abstract: A system for percutaneous transluminal front-end delivery of a collapsible prosthetic occluder includes a front-end loading portion, a control assembly and an introducer. The front-end loading portion includes a tapering lumen portion and a smaller diameter distal lumen portion. An infusion port communicates with the distal lumen portion immediately adjacent the distal end of the tapering lumen portion. A valve assembly seals the front-end loading portion lumen proximally of the collapsed occluder. The distal end of the front-end loading portion lumen is inserted into the proximal end of an introducer. A control assembly advances the occluder through the front-end loading portion, the introducer and into the defect site.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein is a lofty fibrous nonwoven web which is particularly well-suited for use as a surge layer in personal care absorbent articles including, but not limited to, diapers, training pants, incontinence garments, sanitary napkins, bandages and the like. The fibrous nonwoven web is made from a plurality of fibers heat bonded to one another to form a lofty nonwoven web having a basis weight of at least 20 grams per square meter, a void volume of between about 80 and about 117 centimeters per gram of web while under a pressure of 689 dynes per square centimeter, a permeability of about 8,000 to about 15,000 darcy, a porosity of about 98.6 percent to about 99.4 percent and a surface area per void of about 10 to about 25 square centimeters per cubic centimeter. The fibrous nonwoven web will have a saturation capacity of between about 55 and about 80 grams of 0.9 percent saline solution per gram of web and a compression resilience in both the wet and dry state of at least about 60 percent.

    Abstract: The invention requires a brush having a passage through which water forced under pressure is supplied to the brush area and having a passage attached to a vacuum. The water supply passage and the passage under vacuum must be so aligned that the cleaning solution is removed from the area to be cleaned along with debris without allowing the contaminated solution to collect on the surface of the skin. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, no moving parts are required for the brush. The brush may be made of any soft material that is easily cleaned. However, a brush made of soft plastic bristles such as those used for surgical scrub brushes is preferred. The invention does not require formation of a foam as a cleansing agent.

    Abstract: An interlabial sanitary pad is disclosed including a pickup module containing an absorbent which is adapted to fit in or adjacent to a vaginal opening, a capacity module containing an absorbent which is adapted to be positioned remote from the vaginal opening, and fluid-wicking fibers serving as the absorbent and further communicating with both the pickup and capacity modules for carrying fluid from the pickup module to the capacity module. The fluid-wicking fibers are longitudinally oriented and packed in the capacity module at a bulk density greater than in the pickup module. The pickup module has a fluid-pervious cover, while the capacity module has a fluid-impervious baffle capable of containing fluid therein. The capacity module can have a flattened fan shape and can contain superabsorbent.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for noninvasively diagnosing limb compartment syndrome by measuring a quantitative modulus of hardness. In the preferred embodiment, a low friction piston probe mounted within a platform is applied against a limb compartment. Pressure within the piston probe is increased while measuring the displacement of the piston plunger for each pressure applied. The relationship of incremental pressures in the piston to the displacements of the piston plunger are plotted and a linear regression analysis is performed whose slope forms a quantitative modulus of hardness. In an alternate, completely automated, continuous embodiment, a circumferential cuff secures the piston probe mounted within the a platform against the limb compartment, while the quantitative hardness modulus is formulated.

    Abstract: A urine collecting assembly installable on an incontinent male, the assembly including a normally-flat urostomy pouch having a lateral inlet adjacent its upper end bordered by a circular belt-adapter flange, whereby the pouch may be strapped onto the hips or waist of an incontinent male whose penis then projects toward the inlet. The pouch is combined with a complementary circular fixture which is fitted over the penis and then snapped onto the flange of the pouch. Mounted on the fixture is an open-ended short condom, the rear end of which is stretched and attached to the fixture, the open front end of the condom then snugly engaging the shaft of the penis from whose head urine is discharged into the pouch through its inlet. The condom functions as a sealing membrane to prevent urine backup so that the incontinent male is not soiled by his own urine.

A venous perfusion catheter is inserted peripherally into a preselected vein where it is advanced and positioned at the atrio-caval junction. The venous perfusion catheter has first and second balloons which when inflated respectively occlude the inferior and superior vena cava thereby precluding blood flow into the right atrium. An arterial perfusion catheter is inserted peripherally into a preselected arterial vessel and advanced within the vessel and positioned in the ascending aorta cephalid of the junction of the coronary arteries with the aortic root. A second flexible arterial cannula is mounted in sliding relationship with the first flexible cannula and carries an inflatable balloon adjacent its distal end to provide for occlusion of the ascending aorta.

An absorbent structure and liner are disposed between the elasticized flaps. Further, an inwardly-directed face of each flap has a first Wicking Value while the liner has a second Wicking Value that is at least 2 times greater than the first Wicking Value on a gram per gram basis.
