Abstract: A method of communicating an alert includes: encoding data received from a plurality of sources by a central content controller (CCC) and determining existence of one or more alerts. If no alerts exist, the encoded data is assigned as streams to subchannels. For existing alerts, a market area (MA) is determined and the alert is assigned as a stream to a data subchannel and the encoded data is assigned as streams to remaining subchannels. For each MA without an applicable alert, the encoded data is assigned as streams to the subchannels. The assigned data is transmitted to regional controllers (RCs) for broadcasting to the associated MAs.

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for tailoring related episode content within an episode, thereby improving a user's experience. In response to receiving a request for an episode, several factors may be considered when determining how much of the related episode content to provide. These factors may include information such as whether the user has already viewed a previous episode, the elapsed time since viewing the previous episode and a user preference. Related episode content may be modified to remove portions previously viewed by a user, depending on factors such as the elapsed time and a user preference.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are system, method, and computer program product embodiments for the detection of human presence in an energy efficient manner using a plurality of sensors such as those of a battery-powered device such as a television remote, and a device with a processor, such as a television. Data gathered from an initial television WiFi radio scan, or an initial low-powered detection scan from the television remote, may be analyzed by the processor to determine a potential presence of one or more humans are present proximate to the device. If there is such a potential presence, the device remote can enter a full-powered detection mode to accurately determine the presence or absence of one or more humans, and take further actions.

Abstract: In various embodiments, a subsequence-based encoding application generates subsequences based on a source sequence associated with a media title. The subsequence-based encoding application then encodes both a first subsequence and a second subsequence across each of multiple configured encoders and at least one rate control value to generate, respectively, a first set of encoded subsequences and a second set of encoded subsequences. Notably, each configured encoder is associated with a combination of an encoder and a configuration, and at least two configured encoders are different from one another. Subsequently, the subsequence-based encoding application generates encoded media sequences based on the first set of encoded subsequences and the second set of encoded subsequences. Finally, the application selects a first encoded media sequence from the encoded media sequences based on a first target value for a media metric to subsequently stream to a first endpoint device during playback of the media title.

Abstract: Some aspects may include determining whether to allow a skip over a portion of required content based on the amount of time elapsed since a portion of required content was played. The amount of time elapsed since a portion of required content was played may be measured based on the sum time of content played, or may be based on the amount of wall time elapsed. The determination of whether to allow a skip over a portion of required content may be made based on comparing the amount of time elapsed since a portion of required content was played to a threshold amount of time. Some aspects may allow free navigation within content if the amount of time elapsed is less than the threshold, and may restrict navigation or require playback of required content if the amount of time elapsed is greater than the threshold.

Abstract: A media system includes a plurality of set-top boxes coupled to a coax network and a controller. The controller displays a first passkey to a user in response to receiving a request from the user to activate playback of a media content on a particular set-top box. The set-top box receives the first passkey from the user and determines whether the user is authorized to activate playback of the media content by comparing the first passkey received from the user with a second passkey obtained from a passkey module on the set-top box. When the user is determined by the set-top box to be authorized to activate playback of the media content, the set-top box determines a radio frequency channel of the coax network according to the first passkey received from the user and begins playback of the media content received on the radio frequency channel on a display device.

Abstract: An embodiment for recording a channel that is communicating a program of interest identifies a selected program for recording as a program of interest based upon a characteristic of the selected program, the characteristic of the selected program corresponding to at least one characteristic associated with the program of interest; records an advance period corresponding to a period before a beginning of the program of interest, and records a following period corresponding to a period after a conclusion of the program of interest.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are system, method, and computer program product embodiments for collecting and analyzing data from customer premise equipment (CPEs) in a broadcasting network. An embodiment operates by a headend device establishing a first set of connections to a set of CPE devices, transmitting a set of CPE data collection instructions to each CPE device, and then terminating the first set of connections. Subsequently, the embodiment operates by the headend device establishing a second set of connections to the set of CPE devices and receiving, from a subset of the set of CPE devices, a set of CPE data packages generated based on set of CPE data collection instructions. The embodiment further operates by the headend device generating a CPE dataset based on the set of CPE data packages and determining a set of CPE diagnostic data for one or more CPE devices based on the CPE dataset.

Abstract: An apparatus for determining a set of transmit parameters capable of improving and/or optimizing data throughput to a destination device. The apparatus includes an input circuit that receives a signal containing a plurality of data blocks for use by a plurality of devices. At least one of the data blocks is associated with the apparatus and encoded using a first set of transmit parameters. A transmit parameter processor determines a signal to noise ratio value for the received signal and a block error rate value for the at least one data block and at least one other data block encoded using a different set of transmit parameters. A processor generates a request for encoding subsequent data blocks destined to the apparatus using a second set of transmit parameters. A method and system are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method of processing supplementary content in a digital receiving apparatus, includes connecting to an external device being different from a broadcaster; receiving uncompressed audio/video (A/V) content from the external device being different from the broadcaster; extracting audio watermark from the uncompressed A/V content, wherein the audio watermark includes domain type information, time information and event flag; constructing a first uniform resource locator (URL) based on the audio watermark, transmitting a request to a remote server based on the first URL; receiving a second URL for the supplementary content from the remote server, and presenting the supplementary content based on the second URL.

Abstract: In some embodiments, an electronic device presents a plurality of representations of content items that are available on a respective channel in response to successfully subscribing the respective channel. In some embodiments, an electronic device plays content that is provided by a channel in a unified media browsing application. In some embodiments, an electronic device presents information about subscribing to a channel based on content consumption activity of the user on the electronic device in accordance with some embodiments of the disclosure.

Abstract: A method for video management within a CCTV system includes receiving, at a computing device via one or more intermediate devices in the CCTV system, a video stream generated by a sensor device of the CCTV system. The video stream includes a plurality of video frames. The computing device sends, via the one or more intermediate devices of the CCTV system, an instruction to a sensor device configured to generate a video stream including a plurality of video frames. The computing device receives, via the one or more intermediate devices of the CCTV system, one or more frames of the plurality of video frames embedded with metadata associated with performance of the instruction by the sensor device. Performance of the CCTV system is evaluated using the metadata embedded within the one or more video frames.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture for identifying streaming sessions are disclosed. An example apparatus includes an audience measurer to determine an identifier for a commercial presented at a media presentation device, and to determine a time at which the commercial was presented. The example apparatus also includes a log analyzer to compare the identifier and the time to a streaming session log from a streaming service provider (SSP) to identify a streaming session in which the commercial associated with the identifier was presented at the time. The example apparatus also includes a panelist matcher to associate, based on the comparison, a panelist identifier with a streaming session identifier corresponding to the streaming session.

Abstract: A modem configured to operate in a Multimedia over Coax Alliance, MoCA, access network is provided. The modem comprises a combiner having a coaxial interface for connection to a coaxial cable network and at least two frequency-separated southbound interfaces, SBIs; at least two MoCA chips, wherein each MoCA chip is configured to operate a MoCA access link and comprises a MoCA northbound interface, NBI, connected to one each of said SBIs of the combiner, and a data SBI; a link aggregation switch having at least two switchports connected to one each of the data SBIs, and a port to a data communication interface for connection to a client device for communication at a client data rate; wherein the MoCA chips are configured to operate separate MoCA access links at different MoCA access frequency bands over the coaxial cable network.

Abstract: A media system replaces content in a first sequence of media content. The media system presents the first sequence of media content to an end-user and generates a fingerprint of the sequence of media content. The fingerprint is for comparison with a plurality of reference fingerprints so as to identify the first sequence of media content and determine a reference position within the first sequence of media content. The media system sends a request for a replacement sequence of content to a content replacement system, and receives replacement media content selected based on the identified first sequence of media content. The media system presents the replacement media content to the end-user instead of the first sequence of media content. Presenting the replacement media content begins at a position in the first sequence of media content that is determined based on the reference position.

Abstract: Disclosed is a live broadcast method and apparatus that may effectively remove delay of a guest broadcast output from a guest side by generating and transmitting an audio of a host and an audio of a guest as individual elementary streams (ESs) in a simultaneous live broadcast transmitted by mixing a host broadcast stream and a guest broadcast stream.

Abstract: A system for managing media content annotations is configured to generate annotations having a format similar to a title and tailored to a user profile. The system identifies a media content item and identifies a user entity. The system selects from among a plurality of annotations linked to the media content item and stored in metadata. For example, the system may generate more than one annotation, generate links between each annotation and user profile information, and then select among the annotations for the most appropriate annotation for a given user. The annotation may include keywords or entities that are included in, linked to, or otherwise associated with the user profile information. The system outputs, or generates for output, a display that includes a representation of the media content item and the selected annotation.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for performing video synthesis of audiovisual content. In an example, a computing system may determine first parameters of a face and body of a source person from a first frame in a video shot. The system also determines second parameters of a face and body of a target person. The system determines that the target person is a replacement for the source person in the first frame. The system generates third parameters of the target person based on merging the first parameters with the second parameters. The system then performs deferred neural rendering of the target person based on a neural texture that corresponds to a texture space of the video shot. The system then outputs a second frame that shows the target person as the replacement for the source person.

Abstract: A storage system and method for media-based fast-fail configuration are provided. In one embodiment, the storage system aggregates elapsed time spent handling errors in parts of a media frame read from the memory of the storage system. The storage system compares the aggregated elapsed time to a threshold representing a total acceptable latency. If the aggregated elapsed time does not exceed the threshold, the storage system handles error(s) in other part(s) of the media frame read from the memory. However, if the aggregated elapsed time exceeds the threshold, the storage system sends an error to a host without handling error(s) in other part(s) of the media frame read from the memory. Other embodiments are provided.
