  • Patent number: 9186244
Abstract: An accommodating intraocular lens (IOL) comprises a lens, a flexible surface, and an articulating member joining the lens and the flexible surface. The articulating member comprises first and second arms extending from and joined to form a peripheral portion. The peripheral portion has a length extending radially away from a point at which the first and second arms join together and a thickness that is greater than each of a thickness of the first arm and a thickness of the second arm, first and second arms coupling the lens and the flexible surface, respectively. A flex region is disposed about the second arm and at a distance from the peripheral portion. The flex region permits the flexible surface to articulate relative to the second arm. The flex region has a reduced thickness as compared to each of the second arm and the flexible surface.

  • Patent number: 9157174
Abstract: A vascular device includes a body having a first, collapsed configuration and a second, expanded configuration. The body includes a plurality of heat-set strands that are braided such that when the body is in the second configuration, the strands form a plurality of pores and one or more apertures between the strands. The apertures are generally disposed at a longitudinal center region of the body. When the body is in the second configuration, the pores at proximal and distal portions of the body are generally uniform in size and smaller in size than the apertures. The pores and the apertures are substantially the same size when the body is in the first configuration.

  • Patent number: 9149206
Abstract: Tibial prosthesis systems for implantation or use in a knee joint are disclosed. A tibial prosthesis system can include a bearing component, a base component, a shim component, and optionally a spacer component. The shim or spacer component can be inserted between an inferior surface of the bearing component and a superior surface of the base component. The insertion of the shim or spacer component can provide spacing adjustment between the bearing and base components. The shim component can include one or both of a medial edge having a different height than a lateral edge or an anterior edge having a different height than a posterior edge. The differing edge height of the shim component can provide a surgeon with knee joint kinematic insight regarding an angled bone cut before the cut is made, and can allow for sizing of an appropriately permanent prosthesis system using a reduced number of provisional components.

  • Patent number: 9114003
Abstract: Surgical tools, kits, and methods for breast implants are provided. One surgical tool is a rigid or semi-rigid form that matches the size and shape of a corresponding breast implant. The form may be employed to determine skin tension when inserted into a breast. The form may also be employed to mark a fixation suture line for attachment between an acellular dermal matrix and the chest wall of a patient in some instances. However, in other instances a breast implant template surgical tool may be employed to mark one or more fixation suture lines. The breast implant template may be thin and flexible, and define a perimeter matching the size and shape of a footprint of a corresponding breast implant. Marking around the perimeter of the form or the breast implant template allows for convenient selection of fixation suture lines which may result in desirable overall breast symmetry.
