  • Patent number: 6823193
Abstract: The downlink transmit powers of base stations involved in a diversity handover communication with a mobile station are controlled to minimize base station power “drift.” A downlink reference power level is determined based on detected, current transmit power levels of the diversity handover base stations. One or more power offsets is determined for one or more of the base stations based on signal quality measurements made by the mobile station. The reference power level and power offset(s) are used to selectively regulate an adjustment to the transmit power levels of the diversity handover base stations. The general reference power is transmitted at a first, relatively high frequency to the diversity handover base stations by embedding it in a user data frame. In that way, the signal processing load is kept to a minimum despite the higher transmission rate.

  • Patent number: 6751453
Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus for seamless message retrieval during a data session at a mobile station is presented herein. While viewing information related to messages stored for the subscriber, the subscriber can select a particular message for listening to or responding to by voice. Responsive thereto, a record indicating the selected action and any selected message is stored in a state server, the data session is automatically terminated, and a phone call is placed to a telephony server. Upon completion of the phone call, the telephony server determines the action and selected message by querying the state server. The state server returns an operation code and an identifier identifying any selected voice message. The telephony server then performs the indicated operation. Wherein the operation is to play the selected message, the telephony server plays the selected message. Wherein the operation is to respond to an email by voice, the telephony server records a voice message from the subscriber.

  • Patent number: 6628948
Abstract: In a wireless switching system in which base stations dynamically re-arrange logical coverage areas, when a base station enters a new logical coverage area, wireless handsets registered on the base station do not have to report individually this change in logical coverage areas to a wireless switching system controlling the wireless switching system. The base station performing the transfer from one logical coverage area to another logical coverage area informs the wireless switching system controller of the change in logical coverage areas both for the base station itself and for each of the wireless handsets registered on the base station. The base station informs the wireless handsets that the logical coverage area is being changed and informs the wireless handsets that they do not have to re-register. This reporting by the base station greatly reduces the number of operations performed when the base station moves from one logical coverage area to another logical coverage area.

  • Patent number: 6606499
Abstract: For each base station of the network, each physical channel processed by the dynamic channel allocation (DCA) method is associated with a respective priority index computed from radio parameters periodically measured with respect to communications taking place on such physical channel. For allocating a new communication channel, the free and accessible channels having the highest priority are preferentially selected. The priority indices may further be used to dynamically transfer communications to free channels of higher priority, which optimises the distribution of the bandwidth between cells as well as the quality of the communications.

  • Patent number: 6600897
Abstract: A satellite-broadcasting receiving converter includes a plurality of output terminals each of which is connected to an external receiver, to each of which a selection control voltage in which a high-frequency voltage is superposed on a DC voltage is sent from the external receiver, and from each of which one type of a receiving signal is selected according to the selection control voltage and output; and a regulator for generating a power-source voltage from the selection control voltage. Since a high-frequency attenuation unit is connected in series between each output terminal and the regulator in the satellite-broadcasting receiving converter, even if a plurality of selection control voltages are input in common to the regulator, the plurality of selection control voltages different from each other do not affect each other and thereby only one regulator is required.
