Patent number: 4961505Abstract: The bracket 6 of the rod holder 2 is constructed of substantially resiliently flexible material and has four slots 24, 26, 28 and 30 in the rim 18 thereof, which depend to points 37 substantially contiguous to the base plate 4, so that the bracket is divided into pairs of relatively resiliently displaceable body portions 38, 40, 42, 44, and 46. The walls 36 of the body portions have successive pairs of part annular collar sections 34 therein, which define successively smaller clamping rings 48, with nips 50 therebetween, as the slots depend toward the plate 4. As a result, when a rod 96 is impaled in the V-shaped kerf of a slot, it can seek that ring 48 which will grip it against dislodgement, when the caduceus-like clamps 32 at the walls of the body portions, relax about the rod.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1990Date of Patent: October 9, 1990Assignee: Loomis Plastics IncorporatedInventor: David E. Patent number: 4960185Abstract: The invention relates to a vertically and horizontally movable work platform 4 for carrying out renovations to the concrete on reinforced concrete buildings or for replacing the structural protection on steel constructions. To increase the operational safety these work platforms 4 are held against the surfaces 1 of the buildings by attached magnetic plates 6. Since the tensions cables previously required are dispensed with, the weight of the upper carriage 2 from which the work platforms are suspended by cables is considerably reduced.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1989Date of Patent: October 2, 1990Assignee: GESTA Gesellschaft fur Stahlrohrgeruste mbHInventor: Gerhard Thiem

Patent number: 4955457Abstract: An arrangement for the demolition of smokestacks includes a demolition tool for successively demolishing the smokestack shaft. A work platform is suspended from the smokestack wall by suspension devices distributed over the circumference of the work platform. Each suspension device includes at least one vertically guided lowering piston which can be locked in different vertical positions. A suspension arm is mounted at the upper end of each piston and can be swung inwardly and outwardly. In the outwardly swung position, the suspension arm engages over the smokestack wall. A mechanical shovel with the demolition tool works on the work platform. The demolition is carried out in the area of a suspension arm which is swung inwardly. After the demolition work has been carried out, the suspension arm is again moved to the outwardly swung position. This is repeated with all suspension arms until the work platform can be lowered by the stroke of the lowering piston and a new demolition cycle can begin.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1989Date of Patent: September 11, 1990Assignee: Robota GmbH Feuerungs- und SchornsteinbauInventors: Reinhold Pohl, Manfred Dresselmann, Hans-Wilhelm Hessmann

Patent number: 4955963Abstract: A retainer for a transom-mounted outboard boat motor is mounted on the inside face of the transom generally surrounding the area where the clamping thumb screws of the motor mounting bracket engage the transom. The retainer includes a retaining lip which will engage the pads on the clamping thumb screws should the motor shift inadvertently out of position and prevent horizontal sliding or vertical tilting which may result in loss of the motor even if the thumb screws are inadvertently left fully loosened and the engine is operated in reverse in a tight turn. The retainer is easily attached to the boat transom and includes a recessed mounting notch in the retainer lip which facilitates mounting and offers no significant interference to attachment or removal of the motor.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1989Date of Patent: September 11, 1990Assignee: Brunswick CorporationInventor: Richard H. Patent number: 4951781Abstract: Scaffolding structure includes first and second frame members with adjacent connected ends and remote free ends. The connected ends are hingedly connected for relative rotation of the frame members about a hinge axis between a closed position in which the frame members overlap each other and an open position in which the frame members are continuations of each other. A first leg member is mounted on the first frame member adjacent its connected end, a second leg member is mounted on the first frame member adjacent its free end, and a third leg member is mounted on the second frame member adjacent its free end. The leg members are positioned to extend in the same direction from the frame members when the frame members are in the open position and are movable between retracted positions in which they are generally parallel to the frame members and extended positions in which they are generally perpendicular to the frame members.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1989Date of Patent: August 28, 1990Inventor: Jeffrey J. Patent number: 4949810Abstract: A pair of attachments for use with ladders constructed with hollow rungs to stabilize the ladder and to protect the gutter. These attachments when used with ladders also provide for a scaffold plank. The attachments when used with a ladder on a pitched roof allows the ladder to be used to access that roofs peak. Previously the ladder would rest on the rain gutter when the user was to access the roof of a building. Previously a work platform had to be built from wood or metal resulting in time consuming construction. Previously when accessing the roof peak of a building a means of providing a positive foothold had to be constructed from rope and ladder or from wood. The present invention provides steel flat bars bent to fit the rung spacing of the ladder with a steel tube welded at each end sized to fit snuggly into the opening of any two consecutive rungs in that ladder. The ladder can now be used to access the roof of a building without resting on the gutter.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1988Date of Patent: August 21, 1990Inventor: Wayne F. Dwinnell

Patent number: 4949812Abstract: A lowering device for assisting persons to escape from multi-storied buildings in an emergency situation, and adapted to engage a cable or rope of twisted configuration. The device includes an inner rotatable sleeve surrounding and engaging the cable to follow the twist therein and rotate about the cable as it descends down the cable. The inner sleeve is contained within an outer housing which, in turn, supports a person, and the speed of rotation of the inner sleeve and thus the rate of descent of the device down the cable is controlled by a centrifugal brake having bell cranks carried by the inner sleeve and each pivotal against tension springs under centrifugal force to cause eccentrics on the ends of the cranks to act on brake shoes which engage a brake surface on part of the outer housing.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1989Date of Patent: August 21, 1990Assignee: Ullapara Holdings Pty.
